Also, this. That's why hearing the phrase "black community" rankles me so much. Unless you're my family, I don't share some bond with a stranger just because they have a lot of melanin. Overly simplistic view of society.

Think for yourself. March to the beat of your own drum. And DGAF about folks' reactions if/when you don't fit into their convenient little boxes.

If educated and/or successful blacks were glorified more than say gang culture or social justice culture (for lack of a better term) it might go a long way in changing the mindset of many.
And in turn more successful black people that happen to have a platform to reach people should (and I know many do so) encourage education, family, etc, and openly discourage crime, misplaced blame etc. every chance they get. I understand it's not technically their responsibility but the message would go much further coming from other African Americans.
It has to come from them regardless of who you think is to blame for their situation because there's not much more you can legislate into it.

The answer you are looking for is helping support early childhood education.

Almost one in every two black children are born into poverty. When one is born into poverty, there is about a 70% chance that person will live in poverty as an adult. Poor people break the law (especially street crime) far more often than their wealthier counterparts. As you can see, these are unsustainable numbers with no end in sight.

Poor children start school having heard almost 30 million fewer words than children from higher income households. This is known as the "Word Gap." Children with higher levels of school readiness at age five are generally more successful in grade school, less likely to drop out of high school, and earn more as adults, even after adjusting for differences in family background.

These numbers may sound overwhelming but you could make a difference in your own community with a program that helped kids be far more school ready when they enter elementary school.

I think you are wrong here. He is right. There are many useless college courses that lead to no available jobs or low pay. I was a shift supervisor for the last 14 years before retirement. I had 7 people when I worked nights & 10 when I was on days. There was never a time when I didn't have at least 2 people working for me that were college graduates.

Their diplomas were useless and their "education" did nothing to help them advance.

Oh, BTW I am a trade school graduate.

The only explanation I can come up with as to why Chicken tolerates your blatant trolling is that you are in fact HIS alter.

I think you should look at all of the information that is available and form your own perception of what the actual root problem is. Once you do that, you should start working towards changing it.

I do have plenty of liberal ideologies

Good for you. I don't, but that is just how I am. Share those ideologies. Get people with those same ideologies to participate in a meaningful way in our democratic process. That's the way we get things done in the country we choose to live in.

Crime is rampant amongst the poor.

People tend to be poor when they don't graduate highschool and have children out of wedlock. Guess which women have more children out of wedlock? Black women.

I don't know how you change that, but it's got to change if you don't want to keep repeating the cycle over and over again. Maybe start by not having entitlements, we can not reward people with money for having children and dropping out of school. Birth control is cheap, like extremely cheap as well.

This is the single biggest problem in the black community. Our government doesn't help the problem by rewarding people for having kids they can't afford.

Be there for your kids.

Teach them well

Train them in rugged individualism, success through hard work, and fleeing from the culture of victimhood. Teach them to respect their elders and take ownership of their communities.

Are these guaranteed? Of course not. But it puts you on the same path the other cultures in the country are on. The way you break the cycle is by fricking abandoning the god damn cycle.

ETA: THis advice isn't meant solely for you, volod. It appears you had a functional family experience. Having taught many at-risk black youth, that has generally been my advice to them.

Unfortunately, this only gets worse as time goes on given the fact that the lowest income households have 50% more kids than higher income. In fact, it is a direct inverse-proportion to income and children by family.

It's almost unrecognizable to the city I grew up in. The nicest place to eat was Shoney's when I graduated high school in 1996. There's actual legit shopping and dining options there now.
