To be fair, some of us have alterior motives.

Someone else mentioned this in Affirmative Action thread. The truth is that a lot of upper middle class Blacks benefit from Blacks acting stupid and making dumb choices.

They get all the benefits of AA while enjoying a better social class than a lot of other people regardless of race. I do not think most Blacks are like this, but a good amount of them are.

This is one of the rarest and bravest things that I've ever heard a black man say.

It's brave because it is threatening to all the members of a self-styled victim class who do not dare to admit it as it disproves the original assumption.

You will be called a Uncle Tom by the very people that need your help for the sole reason of pointing out that they need help in that department.

This comment is late, but certainly anticipated. SMH. Too bad you can't fix stup--.

What does "be as 'black' as you want to be" even mean?

That statement itself is bullshite. There should be NO consideration for being "more black" or "black enough".

Here's a thought: Know Yourself and BE YOURSELF! There is no black way to be or white way to be.

IMO the problem with black culture is ---- black culture.

What needs to happen is a strong black leader comes forth and talks about -- INDIVIDUAL ACCOUNTABILITY... not whitey, or slavery, or Jim crow, or crackers, or honky lips.

Just motherfricking INDIVIDUAL ACCOUNTABILITY.

Then... and this is the most important part -- OTHER black leaders most step up and support this notion. SUPPORT -- AGREE. Put black culture to task for their OWN SITUATION... But, this never happens. NEVER. What does happen??? Said black leader is then immediately ostracized, called RACIST names (uncle Tom, House..man, etc.) and basically "kicked out" of the cool kids table for black people.

I know, it is truly amazing, but I LITERALLY just solved pretty much everything. Sadly, black leaders KNOW I am right, and are too SCARED to step forward and do the right thing. They are well aware that the only way to currently rise/stay relative is to BLAME any and everything but black people.

Until this happens, NOTHING will change. You can blame me and the past all you want for your current situation, but an intelligent man knows that is fricking ridiculous. To those struggling in this world, I assure you, your own fricking parents, are far more to blame for your struggle than random white guy or the bogey man. But we just can't talk about that can we?

TLDR: Black people - cool. Black Culture - fricked, and unwilling to call each other out.

Don't be a criminal. You're an individual first. Not you're job to fix other people just because they have the same skin color as you

This. Is. ESSENTIAL.

And, obligatory:

My son will have a father actively involved in his life along with his mother. It is flat out ridiculous how much of a statistical advantage that one fact is, regardless of ethnicity.

Also, this. That's why hearing the phrase "black community" rankles me so much. Unless you're my family, I don't share some bond with a stranger just because they have a lot of melanin. Overly simplistic view of society.

Think for yourself. March to the beat of your own drum. And DGAF about folks' reactions if/when you don't fit into their convenient little boxes.

Sorry brother, I can't help since I'm not an AA nor have I lived in an urban area.

I think there are still some white democrats and such that think they can solve everyone's problems.

All I can tell you is that you and other professionals need to be role models for the youth whom inhabit these areas and find investors to improve the areas as well.

That may sound simple but it's not easy

I think there are two important areas in which you can contribute to, that would help. Education and being a father figure. There are a lot of good kids who simply fall into the trap because they have no one guiding them or providing them with any type of support.

If there is a a group of some type, that encourages men to become part of. At a certain age, any kid is eligible to be assigned to a volunteer who becomes a father figure. Just having someone there to provide some type of guidance can make a big difference.

I haven't read the entire thread but the answer to your question resides in the lead up to said question.

quote:

I grew up in a stable home,I had parents and other adults in my life who wanted me to succeed and pushed me to be a better man.

Preach/teach/push this in the "black community " and most of the problems will go away.
