Yeah, I've heard they are just stupid expensive.

We really had a shortage of places until maybe a year ago. Kind of seems like it caught a lot of people off guard with how fast the industry grew lately.

The only time I remember being inNew Orleans was for a wedding (that I didn't go to, long story). They were Tulane students from money and they threw a huge, 400+ person wedding where they had parades and stuff. Must have cost close to 80 k.

You apparently sure as shite don't want to get married near NYC. I was thinking New Orleans would for sure be the most expensive place in the South to get married, but never thought that it would be the only Southern city on the list. I thought Miami would at least make the list.

In fairness, although Miami is technically "southern", I live in Massachusetts and have visited Miami on a few occasions, and Massachusetts has more southern qualities than Miami does.

New Orleans shoots up with the venues. If you want to get one in the parish and you choose anything towards downtown you're paying 20k to just have the space. Then you get to add catering, bands, lighting, etc.

Didn't come out of me and my wife's mom wanted to spend the money(despite our objections) I'm ok with it.

Paid for my daughter's wedding at Pat O's on the river 2 years ago. I cost several grand less than the figure quoted in the article, but it was awesome.

The only thing I would change is one more hour. 3 hours is too short for a reception when the band is good.

Yeah but those weddings blow the average American wedding out of the water in terms of fun.

My goal in life is to get invited to an Indian wedding by a rich family who throw it in India.

I knew a guy who got invited to one in Singapore or something and he said it was the most ridiculous 3 days. Everything was paid for, hotel, entertainment, beverages and on and on.

wedding in New Orleans complete with a 2nd line

That shite is comedy gold....

Laughing at, not with ...

Attendees of said 2nd lines:
-25% have never even heard of a 2nd line
-35% never seen a 2nd line
-65% never been to a 2nd line
-99% don't know how to 'bop strut' or '9th ward shuffle'

It's almost always cringe worthy watching the father-in-laws from Zachary circling a couple blocks in the quarter spinning a white du-rags above his head wondering why he just paid out the arse for the first-line brass band to walk circle a couple blocks for 25 minutes.

I completely agree with you. There will be no second line at my wedding.

Smart man

If the pay wasn't so lucrative, I don't think even the brass bands would want to do them. It's such a travesty. Probably embarrassing for them to even lead that procession, reason they jack up the prices a bit.

Yeah it really is sad in terms of watching these true New Orleans artists debasing themselves, but I am sure they are paid well.

I had a friend in New Orleans last weekend see a second line pass by for the first time and ask if I would be doing that because she thought it was "neat". I responded politely with a "hell no"

Of friend?

She in town for FQ Fesf?

It got packed down here today with people starting to roll in. It's crazy how big FQF has grown over the last 5-6 years

Sorry bud she's gone.

And I was just having that conversation the other day. FQF was/is my favorite festival, but the difference in the crowd between 2009 or so and now is amazing. It's almost become too crowded.

That said I will miss being there this year.

Using some pretty strong words for people that are so easy to do a service for some money.

Its a cool thing to see and something that people from nola will always know. Lets not shite on people for wanting to take part when half of the nola people(black and white) couldnt tell you the origins of it or anything beyond what they have seen firsthand.

FQF, that shite got too big years ago. I dont even bother with it unless out of town people are in and want to see it. Free festival=no go for me.

No i'didn't. Didn't really have the skrilla to go blow. I've only been once and had a blast. I almost pulled the trigger and bought some but come the weather forecast I was glad I didn't. I'm sure next year I'll be out there. Everyone I know that went gave it all thumbs up even with the mud. That says a lot.

And looking at the menus, it seems like the participants have gone away from just perfecting Que, to incorporating pork into just about everything which I think is ten times more awesome. I'm not the most adventurous eater but trying different off the wall flavor combos beats the same ol boston butt sliders.

Meh, it's hit or miss... I do W@tS every Wed and it's free and always has a great mix of people. Mostly the types you'd want to mingle with at your local watering hole...... Then you have expensive Feat like JF where it's a complete shite show. So hard to lump them into 'free' 'non-free'

You and LL should hit me up when y'all down here day drinking in my hood. Catch happy hour at Dominica.

NOLA weddings get expensive when the medical bills start stacking up for the gunshot wounds a majority of the party receive.

NOLA old money will spend a small fortune on weddings and invite a thousand people with an open bar and top shelf drinks
