Glad I'm getting married in New Orleans next year

Could be worse I suppose, I live within an hour or so of two of the more expensive areas. (:nb4dontgetmarried)

A wedding is about the dumbest thing to blow money on.

Things to keep in mind, at least in my experience, is that NOLA weddings tend to have more guests and include lots and lots of booze. I'd be interested to see the data and see if NOLA is top 10 in average cost per guest.

I went to a wedding for a couple that I've known all my life. They live in BR and visit NOLA maybe once every 2 years. They had a wedding in New Orleans complete with a 2nd line as if it were part of their culture.

People in new Orleans like to party and take social gatherings to an extreme? You don't say?

Nola being a destination city there are a lot of people from all over that want to get married here. It's not like all these $50k+ weddings are locals only. To rent out Race and Religious one will pay upwards $20k and that's just for the venue not including booze and liquor.

NOLA has been ranked #1 wedding destination city for last few years. They know how to do it right for out of town folks.

Never said it wasn't worth it, just thought it was a link worth sharing.

I do always enjoy the contradictory nature of the OT.

Poster: "I bought a BMW 5-Series."
Response: "You didn't buy an M5? LOL you poor."

Poster: "I spent 'X' on my wedding."
Response: "Only an idiot would spend money on a party."

I bet the first nine on that list have much higher median incomes.

Makes us pretty stupid.

I actually was curious about this, so I did a very quick search for each.

1. Manhattan: $66k
2. Chicago: $66.6k
3. Westchester/Hudson Valley, N.Y.: $79.6k
4. Long Island, N.Y.: $93.7k
5. North/Central New Jersey: too vague to answer
6. Cape Cod, Mass.: $87.8k
7. Rhode Island: $56.2k
8. New York City, Outer Boroughs: too vague to answer
9. Palm Springs, Calif.: $45.4k
10. New Orleans: $48.2k

So of the 8 that could be looked up with a quick Google search, New Orleans is 7/8 in median household income.

I will say, having worked in a very popular wedding destination in Rhode Island, the vast majority of the people spending an absurd amount of money on weddings do not live there full time. They typically just have summer homes there. I'm sure that can be said about other places on this list though.

We wouldn't trade our experience for anything. But the only two places that made me say not worth it was Blane Kerns and NOMA. Especially NOMA.

Really? I found NOMA to be on the cheaper side of things.

Hope you're doing well bud.

I honestly don't know what it would be per person, they had just quoted an overall cost.
