They should do upgrades every year. Seems like there are a ton of people who want the latest iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, Droid, etc every year. Either that or completely do away with subsidized pricing and then you aren't locked into a 24 month contract waiting to upgrade. Yeah you pay more up front for your phone, but you can leave at any time without the stupid early term penalties.

"Do away with subsidized pricing"?

Why would they have to do this. You're completely free to buy a phone at full price, as you always have been.

ATT has great coverage from what I can tell on my iPad and the 4LTE speed is amazing.

Switch to AT & T. I have four lines with unlimited talk and text with 10 GB of shared data for only $160 a month ($40 a phone!). You can also do their "Next" program where you make monthly payments on a phone and after a year you can upgrade. AT & T has really improved and what they offer is much better than Verizon.

ETA: Their coverage has also really improved lately. I get LTE on the interstates and Hwy. 90 and most decent sized towns. Phone coverage is much better also.

They are hemorrhaging customers to tmobile right now. Additionally tmobile is much much faster where their lte service is available which is most good size cities. I've had both and am with tmobile now. Their speed destroys Verizon where I am, I have no contract, I can upgrade, etc. It is laughable how inferior Verizon service is to tmobile where I live right now.

TMO also just eliminated overage charges completely. TMO may not have the best coverage everywhere, especially way out in the sticks, but I still like them alot as a carrier.

Unless you're talking about basic phones instead of smartphones, you can't get that price online. It's $100/mo for the 10GB plus $40/month/smartphone. That would be $260/month.

It's $15/mo per phone if you sign up for 10gb monthly plan or higher.

bullshite. There is a base plan price per amount of data (4gb, 6gb, 10gb, etc) and THEN 40 dollars per phone. The 10gb base plan is 100 per month and 40 dollars per smartphone. So it is 260 dollars per month buddy. You best call them and review. The new plans are enticing and are drawn up to confuse consumers into thinking they are getting this great deal because of
the early promotional discount for switching from your old plan. You only pay 15 per smartphone to switch plus base price. So for the 10gb package with three lines is 145 dollars. Sounds kickass, right? Only until you are ready to upgrade your phones. Then the prices skyrocket. If you chose to go the old 2 year contract way, the smartphone price jumps back to 40 dollars a month. Or you can do ATT Next and keep the 15 dollar per month smartphone charge, but now you will pay a monthly charge for the new phone of 30-40 dollars a month for 20-24 months (Next plan you only pay taxes on phone up front and spread the rest out monthly for 2 years). So in short, ATT has perfected a very confusing way to present these great, family/group oriented packages in a way that seems great on the surface. The truth is, your old plans are cheaper, and stay cheaper for subsidized upgrading.

TMO does it a bit different. You pay full retail for the phone, paying about $25 per month for 24 months, on a non-contract plan. If you ever decide to leave, you certainly can, but you owe the balance left on the phone at that time.

This is exactly what the Verizon Edge program is.

That's a really old map. though verizon has the best coverage, the worst customer service and the highest prices.

I am considering doing that next time. Do you receive any sort of discount on your monthly service, since technically you own the phone and aren't paying the carrier back for the subsidy? Or is it the same?
