You have to work for Verizon to show a coverage map with 3G Broadband..

I switched to TMob recently and they are the best big name carrier to go with if the service is good where you live/work/travel.

TMobile and Verizon both give you a discount on service when you bring your own device or buy it off contract. Currently, Verizon does not.

If you think you'd be okay with AT&T service, then just buy an unlocked GSM phone with LTE and use it on an AT&T pre-paid carrier. I'd suggest AIO or GoPhone. You'll save a boatload of money over 24 months.

I'm planning on doing this when my Verizon contract ends in January. Already have a brother who does it (with AIO) and he says the service is great.

You can get an unlocked Nexus 5 or Moto X for $350 or $400.

Just skimming the thread but if you are talking AT&T then he is correct. I have 4 lines on my AT&T plan and it's $145 I think with 10GB.

As far as when you upgrade and the plan jumping that simply isn't accurate as best as I can tell unless you upgrade prior to your two year agreement being up. In that scenario yea it make sense that AT&T has to make their money back on the subsidizing of the equipment somehow.

Oh yeah, 900 min a month, unlimited 5 numbers, 2GB, 1000 text messages, phone scam insurance. That's with a 20% discount too.

900 min - $60
2GB - $30
1000 Text = $10
Insurance = $10
Total = $110

Switch to the More Everything Plan dude.

$50 - 2GB Data/ Unlimited Min / Unlimited Text
$40 Smartphone Access
Total = $90

Then go with Edge. You get a $10 discount on your plan, and you can get a new phone today.

$50 - 2GB Data/ Unlimited Min / Unlimited Text
$30 Smartphone Access
$27 iPhone 5S Edge Payment
Total = $107

So, lower your plan 3 dollars a month, you get a new iPhone 5S, and you get a new iPhone every year instead of having to wait 2 years, AND you don't have to pay $200 for a new iphone upfront.

You are welcome.

Your monthly line accesss per smartphone is only $15 if you are out of contract. Its $40 if you are under contract.

I must be special then because all 4 of mine are under contract and they are all $15.

Just looked at my bill and with features and taxes it's $188 for the month.

Well, I contact these fellas and they tell me I have to wait until the contract expires to upgrade. I says, you can't be serious.

You can pay like $25 a month for ANY phone, even if you are under contract.

Hmmm. I wonder what happens if you upgrade and don't go with NEXT?

(No sarcasm. Wondering)

I don't have next as of now. I just switched over from Verizon back in December so it'll be a while before I upgrade or anything but I imagine they'll hit me hard unless I make it the full 2 years. Hopefully T-Mobile keeps putting pressure on the whole industry. They have been great for consumers.

For plans 10GB or higher, AT&T customers with smartphones on 2-yr agreements as of 2/1/14 are eligible for the $15/mo. rate. For plans 2GB to 6GB, AT&T customers with smartphones on 2-yr agreements as of 3/8/14 are eligible for the $25/mo. rate. If upgrading, must comply with then-current req's to keep discounted smartphone rate.

It looks like they've incentivized smartphone users under contract to make the switch since they started offering the Share Value plans. I'm not sure what their motive is. I'm not sure that competition is strong enough to make a bunch of users break contract, and while they're seeking to cut out phone upgrade subsidization, I'm not sure how that affects users still under contract.

It most certainly is. Look, I know these new plans down to the fine print as I had a month long case dispute with ATT to revert back to my old plan.

When you first converted from the old plan to new, since you were currently under contract, ATT provided a promotional discount of 15 dollars per smartphone ONLY for the remainder of the contract on each phone. Once your old "contract" is expired you have 4 options:

1. Keep your current phone as long as you want and keep with the promotional 15 dollar smartphone charge.

2. Sign a new phone subsidized 2 year contract and have your smartphone fee go up to the normal rate of 40 per month.

3. Use the ATT Next upgrade option and retain the 15 dollar per month smartphone charge. However, with Next, you only pay sales tax on phone up front but are locked into a 2 year finance of the full price of phone at 30-40 dollars per month. During this period you are "leasing" the phone until you fulfill the 2 year payment plan. If you cancel or lose the phone you owe the remaining balance immediatley.

4. Pay full retail price to upgrade and keep the 15 dollar per month smartphone charge. This is only for the OT rich as new smartphones (outside of the google nexus) are upwards of 700+ dollars.

ETA- you are right. The plan price doesnt jump. The monthly smartphone fees do.

What's preventing a switch in plans from the Mobile Share Plan back to, say, a FamilyTalk plan at the expiration of the contract? If there are no more subsidized plans available outside of the Mobile Share Plan, then why should we expect that previous plans will still be eligible for the current level of upgrade subsidization?

Thats why I had to open up a case against the switch. They hold a hard line against switching back. Said they are trying to phase it out, but not forcing the switch on customers (yet). Once you switch from family talk to mobile share, it a done deal.

I uncharacteristically switched before reading the fine print and truly understanding what I was getting into. After about 10 minutes of really reading the meat and potatoes of it, I called them back immediatley to put a stop to the switch before it processed. The phone rep fed me a bogus story about not seeing any changes to my account and telling me I had 90 day grace period which was BS. So when my account did indeed change, I filed a dispute because they refused to revert me back because the familytalk plan was being phased out and no longer existed. Well, guess who got their old plan back?

This!

Or:

There is a special individual plan going on that isn't advertised. It's unlimited talk/text with 2gb of data for $75.

You can still 2 yr subsidy upgrade, but your smartphone fee jumps to 40 dollars per month. As far as I know, when my contract is up for renewal, I can still subsidy renew on my current plan. That is until they figure out a way to force me off of it. Ive carried outdated plans for years with ATT before and it was never an issue. Dont see why it will be any different now.

I like Verizon but I lost my grandfathered in unlimited data the last time I upgraded.

Good thing I only use my phone to read TD at work.

I have Verizon with an unlimited data plan.

I'm never going to relinquish it. Never.
