Why can't they just start working for Uber? Case solved

They wouldn't qualify.

I would jump on the chance to be an uber driver if I qualified, but I won't

It's pretty simple. You download the app, register a debit/credit card to the app. when you want a ride, select the type of ride (uberx, uberxl, black car, suv) and set your pickup location. It'll show you if they are doing surge pricing before you submit a driver request. It'll assign you a driver based on your option chosen and proximity to available driver based on GPS. Then show you the driver's name, picture, what car, and real time map of the car coming to get you. Your trip is logged from pickup time, route taken, and drop off time. No cash or card transaction, it's automatically done on your registered card to your account. you get an email receipt. Done.

They wouldn't survive on a system that uses user ratings.

And many wouldn't get through Uber's background checks.

I thought it let you pick the driver instead of just assigning one to you

Not that I'm aware of. Unless I just missed that capability in the app.

How about the cab driver poster yesterday that's only argument against uber was "they will put good hard working cab drivers out of work!!"

Tigerwise is probably crying in his cab right now.

I'd consider being a driver, but my car only has 2 seats.

So what kind of time frame are we looking at to have this service implemented?

I imagine it'll move pretty quick now.

Suburban sprawl, terrible taxi service. It's like an open market with plenty of demand and almost no supply.

It will put good hard working taxi drivers out of business. Now anyone can be a taxi driver and it will lower cab drivers wages. It will be the end of the professional taxi driver as we know it.

Hope BR is ready for the bums

The articles I've read seem to indicate within a month or two. They just need to assemble drivers. Apparently they've been getting a flurry of interested applicants.

Welcome to a free market. It's a beautiful thing.

Adapt or get sent to the wolves.

Social Darwinism, I don't care if youre a hobo due to pure stubbornness.

Someone needs to make an app called "Boober". Maybe it can show you where the nearest titty bar is. Or maybe where the nearest great set of tits is located.
