Make sure you flipping those burgers on time. And don't burn them there fries.

Hopefully when tops comes back they stop rewarding C level students and actually only give it to kids who earn it through strong academics.
Yeah, you know, what should have been done all along. All the people bitching sound like the entitled people that they hate.
So TOPS has been around for 20 years and was designed to keep the brain drain from happening, yet no residency requirements have ever been in place following graduation. Do people not realize how stupid this is? People are still leaving.
And they need to raise the requirements to a minimum 3.0 GPA and 23-25 ACT. Basically, anyone can get it right now. That's absurd.

You do know this has virtually everything to do with oil right? The budget isn't about the last 12 months its about the next 12 months. The last budget counted on oil being substantially higher resulting in bad losses that have to be accounted for this year. The governor doesn't get to kick the can down the road like a president. It's literally about 12 months.

Instead of "all or none", you'd think a genius such as JBE could propose a sliding scale that started with your first semester in college?
Nah, just hire 150 more government workers at $100k/yr, full benefits, and full pensions to figure this all out

Damn, Louisiana gave up TOPS for lent!

At this point is purely political grandstanding.
The middle class will have to accept a tax gouging or tops goes bye bye.
The upper class will just accept that they will pay for their kids schooling. But the middle class will not and will cave and allow themselves to get taxed. The lower class doesn't give a shite either way save for the few that actually want their kids to have better lives.

...and you know there are teachers - and schools - who are padding students' grades to keep them eligible for TOPS.

You do realize the massive amounts of budget cuts that have been ongoing for the past 8 years, right? The deficit we inherited from Jindal is not because of oil. There is a reason we have always been 49th in the nation in education

Time to tell Tyrone and lakeisha to stop reproducing and get a fricking job. State can't afford to support people who don't pay taxes

Until we can cut stuff other than education and Medicare it'll never be fixed in any way

Yeah, it's an idiotic decision by an idiot that didn't feel like putting 2 hours into figuring out a remotely decent solution. I didn't expect it honestly, because minorities and whatnot.

Oil prices are more than likely the driver, but they will spend the new tax revenue before its collected.
LINK
Louisiana, which gets as much as 15 percent of its revenue from taxing oil extraction, is selling debt as slumping crude prices threaten to strain budgets of U.S. energy-producing states.

Massive amounts of budgets cuts? So tell me if we are 49th in every category then why are we #6 in size of government? Talk about value for the tax dollar huh?
The problem is Jindal cut pretty much everything he could cut. He should have cut a whole lot more and raped the pork projects that is where he failed. The very first thing the new Governor did was make government bigger. How are we going to pay for the Medicaid expansion next year if we can't pay for shite this year?

Regardless of whether or not what Edwards said was true, I've already used all my tops and have already paid for this semester. I was referring more to the general state of LA education than TOPS
