JBE is a joke but the constitution hamstrings any governor trying to balance the budget

I never blamed JBE for this problem. I even stated that Vitter would be in the same boat. I have zero faith in a governor Republican or Democrat that wants to tax his way out of this while selling the soul of the state to the devil on day one in office. This is the worst state in union for Medicaid. Expanding it will be the death knell for this state when we no longer get that match from Uncle Sam.

But if they put a "closed" sign on your school in April, I doubt they will be handing out diplomas.
It's really just grandstanding but could be a problem.

Between the self-righteous douchebag engineer + dentist & the old people talking about "back in their day" while failing to account for college tuition outpacing inflation 400x over, this thread has gone about as expected.

Yep.
JBE will get his wish though. I'm taking that job I got offered in Texas.

The white flight and brain drain from this state that's going to occur over the next few years will be epic.
Good for you Downshift for getting out.

The cost of tuition has rose so dramatically due to the everyone must go to college to get a job mentality.
There was a time where you didn't need a degree to become a secretary. There was a time where you could become an apprentice in a field and learn and work your way into a great career.
Today kids are taught to believe they just have to go to school then a job will appear. It's not their fault they are conditioned to believe it. We need to stop looking down on vocational careers and realize that not every person is a special snowflake. Some kids are not cut out for college. There is nothing wrong with it.
Instead parents force their kids that don't want to go to college in and they choose fields in areas they enjoy instead of fields that are likely to net a good paying job. I got lucky. The field I enjoy just happened to be one of the most profitable industries. I put money aside knowing that it may not always be though.

Guess I need to update the old resume and look for a job out of state
Posted on 2/11/16 at 7:38 pm to tduecen
When I look at how much I pay in taxes now and realize the direction this state is heading. Knowing that the next state over doesn't have income taxes isn't doing Louisiana any favors.

Those kids can get a part time job and pay for their tuition.
What part time job can you make 5-7 grand to pay for this semester in the next month or so whenever any classes that aren't paid for are dropped from the register?

So did that frick stick suspend his pay as well? Did he cut state pensions?
But lets expand Medicaid so our budget will be worse in a few years.
Duck you liberal fricks and duck EVERY SINGLE REGUSTERED REPUBLICAN who is dumb enough to vote for JoBamaE!

Oh man.. The penthouse club is gonna be rocking in the next couple of months. Even woodville will have to kick out the one leggers in favor of new talent pool.

Just take out more in student loans then. Then get a part time job during school and work extra hours in the summer when out of school so that upcoming semesters you don't have to take out as much in student loans.
Or....find a full time job someplace that offers tuition reimbursement. Work full time and go to school part time. Will take longer but puts you in less debt.

I'm not saying there aren't options, and this news doesn't effect me personally, but it's not the 80s anymore, a job working 20 hours at Wendy's isn't putting you through school.
ETA also it's ridiculous that they dropped this down a month into school with no warning and past the federal loan deadline for this year. There are plenty of situations where kids can't get student loans of it isn't a federal substadized one.

Regardless of whether or not what Edwards said was true, I've already used all my tops and have already paid for this semester. I was referring more to the general state of LA education than TOPS

And yea it sucks with the announcement and lack of notice but I still believe this is grandstanding.
