We really can't diversify. Best thing we got is oil and the Mississippi River. Forestry is our largest asset. LNG might change things, but its a ways away.

That explains everything. We make more money than you so you're pissed. Does your office chair chap your arse maybe? Did your company stop getting the "good" ink pens?

Just enjoy every night and weekend and holiday with your family while we are making sure the plant is still running and making money to pay your salary.

In 8 years he had like 2 categories of the budget he was constitutionally allowed to cut because they are not embedded in the state Constitution. Want to guess what one of the two categories were?

I ask you. Where would we be today had he not made those cuts? You think the state would magically have more money to spend?

Yes, we all know that. Don't you think this is a bigger issue than Edwards or the oil industry?

I feel like any of the four candidates would have had to deal with this massive black cloud that just hit LA.

Time to tell Tyrone and lakeisha to stop reproducing and get a fricking job. State can't afford to support people who don't pay taxes

While I tend to agree, we're not in this mess because of welfare recipients.

Absolutely, but that doesn't fit the narrative that this is all because of the Democrat in office

It sucks but there is no way around it. Loss of business and loss of jobs leads to loss of property. Loss of property taxes, income taxes and payroll and corporate taxes. The state doesn't grow money. So who is left to pay the taxes? If serious cuts are not made then you tax the people with jobs until they are forced to leave or they join the unemployed as well. But where can you make cuts? Jindal was the devil for cutting the only place he could legally. JBE will learn the same soon unless the constitution is fixed. Extreme cuts to the pork projects and protected pork projects is the only plan that can save this state but you can't do that without a vote and the political will power of the governor to abandon his base.

Catman, this was an outstanding post. LA is going the way of Detroit if some serious soul searching isn't done... SOON...

Eventually, there will have to be some major sacrifices that no one will vote for. I hope this move by JBE was for some political shock value because apparently people only get mad when you take something away from them.

If oil were 65 dollars a barrel we are not having this conversation I promise you that. There is a difference between the state being bad off and being near rock bottom.

The Medicaid expansion with the budget crisis sitting in the wings was completly ignorant and showed me that this Governor does not have a clue what he is in for. Next year will be rock bottom unless we can open up the rest of the budget to cuts.

We will probably have to accept a certain level of tax increases as well however that will not put a dent into the problem. The massive amount of wasteful tax dollars is killing this state. There is zero justification for this state to have the 6th largest government per capita.

19000 government contractors, 280 managers with 1 employee - state legislators got a big raise before Jindal left, sounds a little heavy at the top....
