Still better than BR, and most of Louisiana as a whole.

The stretch from Meridian to Birmingham where I20 & I59 are the same stretch is pretty damn rough. Of course, you dumb arse could have moved to the left lane and avoided the worst.

Dude, I did move over to the left lane, it was not much better. When I hit the Tennessee border, I thought I was at the Indy 500 on how smooth it was compared to Bama. I thought KY roads are bad, but holy shite, it is real bad in Bama.

Chattanooga to Gadsden is much worse.

50 miles of construction barrels on the side of the road so they can write construction speeding tickets.

Gadsden to Ft. Payne is a construction speed trap. Seems like they've been pretending to pour concrete for a decade. Once you pass Ft. Payne, it's pretty smooth.

That is a terrible stretch. I'd say worse than the stretch between the Basin bridge and Lafayette.

The construction speed trap goes to the state line now. It's from the state line almost to Gadsden non stop now.

The road is fine, just the speed trap bullshite makes it worse.

And drive in the right lane and only pass in the left lane. Then after passing, please move back to the right lane, even if you can see a vehicle in the right lane ahead of you. We will let you back in the left lane to pass when you catch that next car. Promise!

So, to recap...
Drive in right lane.
Pass in the left lane.
Go back to right lane and keep driving.

Gratefully,
Everybody not from Alabama

What's funny to me, as a lifelong resident of Alabama, is that the stretch the OP is talking about isn't that bad. Try driving 65 between Alabaster and the northern Birmingham Suburbs. That 35-40 mile stretch through Birmingham sucks. I drive about 10 miles of it every single morning. And 65 as it is approaching Montgomery from the North is awful. It only gets worse as you keep driving through the Gump on your way to the beach. I take 20/59 down almost to Mississippi when I go to my grandparents and other than a few rough spots in Tuscaloosa that isn't a bad drive. I drove from Birmingham all the way to Meridian back in March, in my old Jeep, and it wasn't that bad.

Two weeks ago headed south on 59, we drove no faster than 35 mph on that stretch of road for about an hour. No road work or accidents, just slow going on the interstate! Started meditation practices...
They just can't stop themselves from left lane touring.

We drove it going to New Orleans just this year. Tuscaloosa to Bham is a great stretch. Tuscaloosa to the state line is good road. It turns to shite in Meridian.

We drove that stretch on our way to Gettysburg/Pittsburgh last month.....it's way better than Louisiana interstate surfaces.
