Never been, just surprised to see a Polish city. I accept my ignorance.

Well the fact that London isn't included gives it instant cred. If you aren't very, very well off, London is a shite hole. Good luck enjoying a week there for less than a few grand (not including the flight).

My list:

Vienna
Sydney
Melbourne
Rome
Florence
Venice
NYC

I'm surprised that Prague or Budapest did not make the list. Vienna is truly beautiful. I could easily live in that part of the world.

I'm the only person here who's seen the Nutcracker in the Vienna Opera House wearing an LSU rugby jersey.

Sevilla was much more unique than Barca. Andalucia still has all of the Moorish/Arabic architecture, with the white sheets over the narrow streets/alleys.

Would love to see that. I'm a big history nerd. For the same reason I regret never making it to Florence.

Then you didn't know what the frick you were doing in Venice. Venice was absolutely amazing. I met locals, drank in a "local" bar, ate in a "local" restaurant where nobody spoke English (which was very rare), hung out in a "local" campo, and talked to a an old lady for twenty minutes about her old dog, even though neither one of us spoke the same language.

Venice is not the 3rd best place on the planet, even if that conversation about that lady's dog was fantastic

And you can do all that "local" stuff at any other old location in the world. Venice is not special in that regard. You can hit all the major sites there in a day. I don't get people who stay there for a week.

I agree with you here though. I'm surprised that Prague isn't on there somewhere.

Boston should not be ranked. Good city, but not top 20. San Fran is ranked a little too high, but I think deserves a spot on the top 20.

I've been to all 3 of the US cities and i agree with this. boston is cool, but definitely not worthy of top 20 worldwide. SF is like a mini new york, and honestly might not belong on the list either. NYC is by far the greatest city I've ever been to.

Cape Town? Ludicrous. No city with massive slums where you have to have private security even in the nice areas to avoid being raped and murdered should be considered. This rule would eliminate mid-late '70s-'80s NYC but not modern NYC.

If I had to rank the Top 10 cities in the world, it would be as follows:

1) NYC
2) Hong Kong
3) Rome
4) Tokyo
5) London
6) Paris
7) Shanghai
8) Istanbul
9) Amsterdam
10) Barcelona

HMs: Singapore, Beijing, San Francisco, Rio de Janeiro, and Moscow

Granted, I've only been to half my list, but I'd say pretty comfortably those are the best cities in the world to show mankind's achievement, and each of them is very unique. Cape Town doesn't represent shite.

While I personally like Hong Kong a bit more, NYC is without question the greatest city in the world. It represents everything great and vile about our world as a whole. It's where dreams go to thrive or die. It is not only a city, it's THE city. If you had to ask every person in the world to think of the first city that pops in their head, I bet 3 out of 4 would say New York because of how instantly iconic it is. I really think no city represents an idea more than New York does, and that's why it's the greatest city ever built.

Too bad we didn't put that sucker somewhere with a better climate though. Always said I'd love it in North Carolina or something.

Your list looks pretty good.

I sometimes think Buenos Aires make a list based on name alone. Just sounds awesome

My thoughts as well. Skipped Venice when I was in Italy after mixed reviews. Florence > Rome. Barcelona was my favorite European city followed by Amsterdam and London.

Lots of Europeans and Aussies buy vacation packages with rail from Vancouver to Banff.
