Agreed. I've Always thought keeping a sporting dog or a large dog inside most of the time seems like a bad idea for the dogs sake. But it seems many today think that taking their Lab (or whatever breed) for a walk a few times a day is enough recreation. It just seems wrong to me, but to each his own I guess.

I was told I am not welcomed at Starbucks- I believe in traditional marriage. So waiting in line at Starbucks is not an issue for me.
That having been said, I do think people abuse the service dog issue.

I just registered my 7 week old lab as a support animal. Will get a laminated card and service animal vest for when I need it. I have a Pyerenez that is registered. I buy her a seat on the plane when we fly. I usually drive though when I take my dog places. It is easier on her and other people too.

Most places (lowes, walmart, academy, bass pro) allow you bring any dog in regardless. Just don't let your dog be a hassle to others and you are generally good.

People just going about their business sure do set a lot of you people off.

Service dogs can be used for medical conditions that you cant see like epilepsy and diabetes/low blood sugars.

I'm for fewer people minding other people's fricking business and more dogs.

Yeah this is a little obnoxious. I have a really good friend who used to live in panama. One of the nicest people you could meet. She made her dog a service dog so he wouldn't have to go into the cargo for the long flight back and forth.

No issue with it. I like dogs more than most people so the more dogs around, the better

Scruffy has no issue with vets being afforded more respect and, in a few instances, more rights, but why should they be permitted to take a service dog anywhere just because they are a vet.

Scruffy obviously doesn't know what he is talking about. They aren't allowed to take them anywhere because they are a vet. Scruffy could have him a service dog and take him anywhere also.

I am a vet and I think the service dog thing is a huge scam also. This isn't really out of control with vets although I think it is probably abused some. Where it is out of control is with these damn hipsters who use it to take their dogs everywhere.

Well said. I don't see why people are triggered by a damn dog that isn't messing with anyone.

Not reading this whole thread. But I completely agree with OP.

It's out of control.

Things I always loved about Germany, your dog is welcome in almost any business, or restaurant, but no whining brats around you at dinner. It was universally understood that kids under age of about 15 were not to be brought to dinner in a restaurants.

It's a real shame that women and her service dog rustled your jimmies. What's a tough guy like you doing hanging around in a liberal haven like Starbucks in the first place? Are you too much of a snowflake that you can't get your coffee fix at a 7-11 or someplace like that?

The photos you posted don't show that women or her dog doing anything disruptive. You have no idea what kind of medical issues that women may have. It sounds like that dog violated your "precious safe space."

I've seen so many people with service dogs that are obvious scams. Probably paid for by someone else.

Out to eat is one thing, but why the heck do we need to have dogs in lowes, in the grocery store, etc?

I'm a diabetic and i have a diabetic alert dog. My dog has saved my arse dozens of times. It goes damn near everywhere with me. Lowe's, Home Depot, Sears, Kohl's, Target, you name it. I have never taken my dog into a restaurant or a grocery store, since i never go to either one of these kind of places without my wife.

After some of the remarks that I've had thrown my way from some customers in some of the places that I have had my dog, I can only imagine the horror that some people might go thru if i took my dog into a restaurant or grocery store. I realize that some people would have their feelings hurt, just like the OP, so I don't take her into those kind of establishments.

But I don't understand why anybody would get upset at a well behaved dog being in a hardware store or a store like Sears, Penneys or Kohls.

Being a diabetic, I care more about my blood sugar levels then your pet dander allergy. Not that I would wish you any ill will, I just believe my diabetes is a little more serious and potentially more dangerous then a half a day bout of sneezing and itchy eyes.

Just my opinion of course.

One of the things I loved about Breckinridge, CO was the town acceptance of dogs almost anywhere, even in a lot of restaurants. The dogs weren't allowed on the ski runs though.

It is out of hand. People take advantage of it and there are those that need a service animal. I keep threatening to bring my service bison to work.
