In Texas, you can report to the AGs office those who abuse the situation.

Nah man, you don't get it. That's ok. I've been out with families who have lost everything in this; I'm not about to turn it into a tigerdroppings dick measuring contest.

Especially when a lot of those local contractors (and their workers) have been flooded out - both personally, and their business locations.

If I set up a food truck to feed the contractors and people redoing their houses in an area with no more viable restaurants, but I charge instead of giving that food away, am I also "taking advantage" of the situation?

Nope but don't triple the prices, especially if your cost hasn't gone up. THAT is taking advantage.

I would like to see the original scam. All I see is a warning. If they guy made some Cajun navy shirts I don't see the problem with it

I believe Louisiana tightened up the laws since Katrina and Gustav but maybe not to the level of Texas just yet. It was terrible the price gouging going on during Gustav.

I did see several homes that normally rent for 2K in Baton Rouge are renting for $4,500 now. Thats not illegal though.

I wonder if any of the Houston constractors will come to Baton Rouge? Most stay really busy because the housing market has been skyrocketing and in high demand and from the tax day flood. But they will definately make more money in Baton Rouge than in Houston because of all of the competition there.

I have seen it. I don't see the problem with it. Not sure who coined the term "Cajun Navy" but I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't participate and are not involved in the shirts

Yeah I saw some on facebook. All profits are "supposed" to go to helping the people of LA.

This always happens in these situations. You have crews from all over the country that will be descending on the area soon. Make sure you get registered La. Contractors or beware.

Triple the prices compared to whom?

Can guarantee they would be more than triple McDonalds or Sonic. In comparison.

Besides, Home Depot already has more equipment coming. Their little scam won't work. Unless people are willing to pay them now.

Speaking of rentals at the same time my sons landlord yesterday told us that he was renting to members of his church first month to month (he has a large rental company) and waived the first months rent. Thought that was super awesome.

No doubt and that is why I put supposed in parenthesis. I didn't do any digging into who was selling them and their credibility.

Oh. The out of town contractors bought the equipment despite not having the infrastructure to house it?

Got it

That stuff is going to happen. Of course people are going to stockpile supplies, how do you know they aren't giving them away? The same thing happens EVERYWHERE regardless.

Your criticism of "southern culture" is unwarranted.

The neighbor helping neighbor stuff is real and unfortunately isn't as prevalent in other parts of the country as it is in the south.
