Well clearly Tesla has its early adopter fanboys waiting for a more suitable price point to roll out, as evidenced by the posts and upvotes/downvotes in this thread.
People downvoted me for pointing our the fact that Tesla has missed several times on projections and that they are hemorrhaging cash (both being objective facts).
None of that has anything to do with me. i think that conversation was one you were having with someone else.

What about the whole govt subsidies thing? Is it actually substantial? My o&g buddies claim it's something like 30% and without the subsidies Tesla would go broke.

Why? Batteries aren't all of a sudden going to charge 10x faster on a practical, safe scale, due to technological advancements.
I think you could have batteries in the future (within 10 years) that charge to 70% in 1-2 minutes.

I recall Tesla promoting that exact tech for their supercharger stations a few years ago. Obviously, it's probably one of the bigger obstacles to large scale adoption.

They were talking about the oil companies, brah. Not Tesla.

Sounds like a fantastic car BUT it's expensive as hell & I have reservations on the long term reliability of these electrics & battery life. Consumer Reports have been total Tesla Homers recently.
All of this.

the batteries are only guaranteed for 8 years on the Tesla.
About the same as most car warranties... which never include the engine to that length of time anyway.
To be fair, these things cost 3x more than most cars. And paying to have a combustion engine replaced on a 5+ yr old car is not very expensive - That battery would cost $10k+.
But, I am with you in the sense that Tesla's reliability and quality are underestimated.

O&G people are the last ones that should be attacking others for getting govt subsidies

It's better than any warranty that BMW/MB/Audi/Porsche offer.
Wanna take a guess on what it would cost to replace an engine for any 80k+ car that is out of warranty?

Tesla turned it up to 11.
The A/C actually goes to 11.

And the battery life? People stopped worrying about this years ago.

Consumer Reports reminds readers that driving an electric car is still logistically tricky, with journeys longer than 200 miles requiring extra planning
Um....

He doesn't mean on a single charge. He means the overall lifespan of the battery.

When Elon cracks the battery storage issue, this tech will take over. A massive amount of research is ongoing in this department. It is very exciting.

I'm about to buy a pre-owned Tesla. Can get it for around $73k plus I still get to take advantage of tax subsidies which should reduce me down to around $60k. The pre-owned model s receives a full inspection, remaining battery and drive warranty and a four year, 50,000 miles pre-owned limited warranty with 24 hour roadside assistance.
I have a buddy that owns a pre-owned model and he loves it.

Correct b/c it wont be a DD like a Prius.
Battery swap on a Prius?
Around $3K.
Lifespan of batteries? 5-7 years.

Yes, but most engines aren't trash after 8 years. This is a very dumb comparison.
Also, I bet that at battery is pro-rated, just like Wal-Mart.

I bet much more than that.

They should be way more reliable. Many less moving parts, and nobody is gonna even put 10K a year on a Tesla.
