You sound like a former coworker of mine that thought electricity came from steam.

Do you have any idea how many parts of those electric cars are made from petroleum products?

And yes, I know steam is part of the process.

I'd say 100% of the parts went through some process where petroleum was used. Still, Tesla's are without a doubt more efficient than ICE.

Friend of mines dad has one and I got to drive it about a month ago. The acceleration and handling were out of this world and the giant screen in the middle makes it feel like a space ship. It was incredible

There's no doubt this is a badass car with awesome performance but what's the range at 70-80 mph? Because a lot of those red dots seem to be well over 100 mIke's apart.

I do, but the entire system of production and support, energy etc. is not a net gain for O&G, which is why lobby shop spin doctors are always trying to tear them down with "OMG, another fire!" stories that ignore the fact that their cars and the fuel that supports them kill thousands of people every day.

I don't think the electric system is currently superior to the conventional gas system, and I'm glad it's a long, gradual play because I don't want global economies to be turned upside down. However, in the end, I think most people will choose electric, not because it's the faggy green thing to do, but because it's a better product.

Tesla oofers us a glimpse into that future, IMO.

I'd still buy one in a heartbeat. In 5 years i bet the "charging stations" complaint will hardly be an issue.

What did I miss??

Also IIRC the charging stations are just far enough apart where you can't run out of juice if you go straight from one to the other. I think.

Why? Batteries aren't all of a sudden going to charge 10x faster on a practical, safe scale, due to technological advancements.

The charging stations will probably become more abundant though. I'd easily take it (or buy it if i could afford it). It's awesome. I can always use a second car for road trips.

Well clearly Tesla has its early adopter fanboys waiting for a more suitable price point to roll out, as evidenced by the posts and upvotes/downvotes in this thread.

People downvoted me for pointing our the fact that Tesla has missed several times on projections and that they are hemorrhaging cash (both being objective facts).
