What are the student-to-teacher ratios? Is there common core? How much homework do elementary kids have? How do they compare to the Louisiana schools (public or private)? What are the negatives you have encountered?

I came out of Klein ISD and am doing just fine for myself. I can say the same for friends that came from Cy-Fair (Cypress Fairbanks), Conroe, and Magnolia ISDs.

Better in pretty much any way imaginable.

I don't know if its a negative, but a lot of the schools are giant, I liked going to a smaller school. No way would I have been able to play 3 different sports at a school with 3k people.

No way. Some Spring schools aren't that bad I'm sure but the high schools get pretty ghetto for a Houston suburb

The Woodlands, Sugar Land, Kingwood and Katy are what you want.

Cypress, Klein, Friendswood, Clear Lake, Missouri City are pretty good too but can vary

What schools? Benfer, Strack MS and Klein High here. Lived in Spring until junior year of high school.

No. Don't confuse Spring ISD schools with Spring zip codes. 77379 is trying to change to "Klein" and disassociate itself from the Spring name. I'm not sure how this works though.

There is no Common Core Standard in Texas, the state has developed its own standard which is called STAR.

We started in Nov, and I've noticed quite a bit more homework in Texas. You just can't compare the Texas schools to LA, Texas is just so far ahead of LA. We went from LA private school making A's to Texas Public school making C's. I finally have the grades up to B's, but be ready for that transition.

I do miss the small private school setting, but I can't deny that my kids are now getting a better education.

Magnolia ISDs.

What's the deal with Magnolia ISD? I live in The Woodlands and didn't pay much attention to school districts as I assumed it was all the same, but later found out small portions of The Woodlands to not fall under the Conroe ISD. I've heard mixed reviews about Magnolia. Currently planning to move into a better school district within The Woodlands, or bite the bullet on private school. There's always a good chance I'm moving for work before my son ever makes it to elementary school anyway, but just wondering.
