And then those parents go to the board of education and the principal gets fired.
I'm not advocating literally responding with two words and saying "tough shite".
Meaning, the principal could explain the difference in a rational manner to the parents why the terminally ill child's situation is different from their child's.
You're being intentionally difficult.

I agree people saying "Don't let her walk because she didn't graduate!!" are heartless assholes. I don't think her not finishing her courses in time are why the school is telling her she can't though.

No I'm not. I understand what you're trying to say and I agree with you. If I were a principal, I would allow the girl to walk. But you're not thinking about the irrationality of parents sometimes. You're going to have dumbasses that say their child is just as special as this girl is and that this girl doesn't deserve special treatment. Yeah, it is incredibly stupid for them to say that. But it will happen because stupid parents are everywhere. If they just say no to this girl, as heartless as it is, they avoid all of those issues in the future. In a perfect world, everyone would be on the same page with this.

people here can't really be as heartless as they sound.. can they?
Of course they can. This is the same board that will thrash a person for being mean to a tow company desk jockey and saying "Do you know who I am?" by calling her a county whore that sucked dick to get her job w/o a hint of irony.
I'm actually very surprised that Plano ISD is doing this. I seem to recall several area schools letting kids walk that weren't done when I was younger. They would just hand them an empty tube instead of putting the diploma in there.

I hate liberals as much as the next guy, but this has nothing to do with political sides. If you would spend one day in the life of a CF patient, you would tap out!

I agree with you on that.
They probably just want to avoid having to look at things on a case by case basis b/c they are worried about getting sued at some point.
It's the same idea that created the bullshite zero tolerance rules for drugs, weapons, and fighting that get kids into trouble for things like plastic butter knives, aspirin, and attempting to defend themselves when getting their asses kicked by bullies.

Which is bullshite. Do your jobs. Dealing with dumb parents comes with the job description.

THANK YOU! Finally someone understands what I'm trying to say

I understand what you're saying. But it doesn't add any more legitimacy to their decision in my eyes.

Plano, Texas is hardly a bastion of liberal policy.
LINK
This rule was established by the conservatives who run the school district. (again, probably due to fears of being sued)

I personally wish the girl would be allowed to walk but I understand why the school isn't allowing her too. You allow her to walk then you open up pandora's box and there will be stupid mother frickers claiming "My child deserves to walk just as much as she did! Why is she being treated different than my child is?!"
It's just easier for the school to be heartless and say no to this girl than to have to deal with the inevitable bullshite that will come from worthless parents looking for their kids to get the same kind of treatment even though this girl's situation is obviously different.
This. The people who say no, mostly aren't terrible, even though I disagree. The terrible people are those who would use this situation to embolden them to get special treatment....
"My kid got an F because he worked 15 hours a week at the Ice Cream Shop he deserves to walk..."
"My kid had a cold during his third year and he never recovered..."
"My kid was a star athlete for this school, even though he didn't graduate he still contributed..."
Of course this girl is special, of course she should walk. But suddenly EVERYONE'S case is "special." But it's not terrible to say you don't want problems down the road.
Long story short, many many people suck.

In other words, the school administrators are cowards for not letting her walk.

I'm assuming she needs a class due to her being treated and missed it of something? Or did she fail it outright?

School administration would need approval by the superintendent of the school system.

Was the tuxedo wearer terminally ill or did she just want to wear a tuxedo for the hell of it? I'm failing to see the similarities here.
I'm guessing you were one of the "we must always follow the rule" people in that thread.

I can sympathize. I wasn't allowed to walk because I dropped out to go to rehab a month before the end of the year.
