Are the Confederate Statues just large participation trophies? Are we not all against those?

No.

They're statues. Of people.

History is too dangerous to be memorialized.

I hope it happens. Let the fricking libs suck on that.

ETA: I consider myself a history buff and I really love Civil War history, but I honestly had no idea how Tulane got it's name.

A dude named Tulane founded a school

No diffferent then any of the industrial aged private schools like Rice, vandy, ect

William H. Rice has an awesome story.

To;dr of it: Made a killing selling Mexican goods to both the north and south (hence blue and gray in their school colors), started a white male only university and then was murdered by butler.

That a-hole in Charleston had a confederate flag in some pictures. That's literally what got the ball rolling

They were cooking this shite up long before any of that happened, they just saw their opening.

I'm glad I left Nola. After ten years in that dump I couldn't wait to leave. I enjoyed it for the fun times, and I'll sure as hell miss my friends. The reality is dealing with constant crime horrible infrastructure etc gets really old. People in Louisiana don't like to move away and never really realize how little they get and how much they are getting soaked.

I lived in the Caribbean for a while when I was younger and New Orleans is just like the Banana Republics down there. The lack of reliable utilities, horrible roads, indifferent police, its all the exact same problems.

Moved to TN, almost no income tax, sales tax lower than nola, roads are 1,000x better, etc...

.... And colonialism

Oh wow! I thought for sure if we caved to the last thing they wanted they'd be placated enough to stop asking.

Maybe we just give them a little more and then a little more after that.

It's like parenting. You don't give in to your kids bitchfit tantrums. All that does is reinforce the tantrum.

Mitch is a parent. He should know..... Oh Nvm.

Proud to be a fricking Landrieu, right?

During the American Civil War, Paul Tulane was the largest donor in New Orleans to the Confederate States of America, but the historian John D. Winters in his Civil War in Louisiana (1963) does not give the amount Tulane contributed

The Andrew Jackson monument is perhaps the most iconic pieces of art in the city. There is NO frickING WAY that thing is taken down.

Andrew Jackson won the Presidency.

Robert E. Lee was a decorated general, given a full pardon, had his citizenship restored, and was held in great honor by most people at the time.

How anyone can justify taking down the Jackson statue, while at the same time being cool with every other memorial we have for presidents is beyond me. A good 70% of presidents did something we would consider to be awful in today's climate, but you still have to fricking remember them. shite, Genghis Khan is still on the Mongolian dollar; do all Mongolians want to murder the world? No, but he was their first leader so they remember him.

ETA: Also if you want to talk about sanctioning the killing of Native Americans, you should go back through every single president pre-Jackson.

I'd like to buy a billboard around the airport headed to nola that reads "welcome to nola, where we're tough on crime."

But have crime stuck through with graffiti and write statues above it.

Realistically speaking, Does anyone see NOLA actually going way south? What white person wants to live there after this? You would hope NOLA maybe just goes to shite after this but do people care enough?

I hate Mitch's pandering as much as the next person, but the hyperbole coming from the "i'm never going to NOLA, I'm moving away, blah blah blah" side is starting to rival Mitch's nonsense
