I was ok with it at first until a ten year boy tried to kiss my 8 year old daughter. Now nobody can play in my yard .

Yeah I lived in a very kid friendly neighborhood and a majority of them rode the bus to school with me in middle school. Times may have changed though

Pretty much. But I've got kids of my own as well. When they're not in school all the kids will play in my yard some then they'll go play in one of the other yards for a bit. Personally, I love pulling in from work to see my kids outside with all their friends getting to have fun and just be kids.

I can remember acting like this a little bit when I was a kid but that was 30 years ago and we lived in a different world. Plus my parents at least knew the people whose yards I was traipsing through all the time.
My kids and their friends tend to stick to their yards or the yards of their friends. As for supervision, my son is now 13 so we don't have to watch him like we use to. My youngest is only 7 though so she stays in our yards and if she's outside, we're outside as well.

Don't set out any hidden bear traps or spring-loaded shotguns. Pay your insurance premiums. People worry too much about getting sued. That's what insurance is for.

As a kid we played in the neighbors yard if we were playing with the neighbors kids. Not just by ourselves! I do t personally want the neighbors kids here if they're not hanging out with/playing with my kids.
And I wouldn't want my kids playing at the neighbors (out or inside) without the neighbors kids!

This, and also the old lady next door says that DCF is keeping an eye on those kids because of certain issues with the family. I'm trying to not be involved at all, either by letting them hang around or by discouraging them.

What's the concern? Your insurance company and lawyer take care of all the heavy lifting. As long as you are well insured you really have no reason to fear litigation.

I came home one night to a two high school kids shooting hoops in my driveway. I had no idea who they were but said hello and walked into my house. I assumed my wife knew their parents somehow and I didn't recognize them. Nope. Turns out my wife had no idea they were playing ball out there. I didn't give a shite but my wife went out and ran them off!

WTF? She is 7, do you live in a bad neighborhood? I let my 4 year old and 3 year old go outside by themselves. I watch them through the windows but they are free to roam the back yard and the adjoining yards. They know not to go in the road.
When you here people talking about helicopter parents....you are being one btw. Let the 7 year old have a little freedom until she shows she can't handle it.

I live on a pond, and that is definitely true for me. About 4-5 ft from the waterline, which is pretty much the slope to the water, belongs to the HOA.

If kids are playing in my yard without permission I make sure I know who their parents are. I'm friends with all my neighbors on my street especially the ones with kids. Not saying you have to walk down there and talk about their kids but find an opportunity to get to know them and size them up. That way you can determine if you need to tell the kids to gtfo.
