You're delusional if you don't think race plays at least a part in the desire to part with Baton Rouge. You want your kids yo go to some lilly white school without paying private tuition fees.

if these hypothetical non-white students were 25+ ACT-type students who weren't disciplinary issues, do you think the st george crowd would care?

It sounds to me like you need to stop projecting your flaws onto others and own up to the fact that you're a racist.

St. George is about a school district that has failed everyone, and refuses to listen to anyone. Nothing more, nothing less.

Is it wrong to be racist?

Can't somebody not like another race based on a set of facts, statistics, and documented behavior over an extended period of time and make an informed decision about weather or not they appreciate their company, and its' influence on their well being?
If I was Jewish, I may dislike Germans for a variety of reasons.

But if I was Jewish, and Germans were ruining my schools and dragging down my social well being, I think I'd have a more sound basis for disdain, with regards to being forced to participate in an educational system with them, that's largely paid for by my people.

Well if that's the case, what's w/ all the transfer busses? I went to one of those "Better Together" meetings and nobody there could answer my questions, either.

Then keep asking the question.

My question is, why can't kids just go to the school in the attendance zone in which they live? Why all the transfer busses?

Because for some of them, the schools in their zone are shitty.

You're making a decision to judge an entire race based on the POOREST segment of its population?? That's like black people judging all white people off of the trailer trash and rednecks.

We have been told that if formed the city of St. George would be the 5th largest city in the state. The voting block is there it just needs to get unified.

Most of the educated voters tht live within the gerrymandered boundaries the city would probably vote for these candidates as well.

Contrary to what this board believes Kip did not get elected to office without the help of those who live in St. George.

I am as conservative as the next guy, but this is just boneheaded. If you believe in the idea of public education (as I do, although I will acknowledge that my kids go to Catholic schools), then you have to believe in it across the board.... not just your kid, but the poor kid across town. Yes, rich people carry the weight in educating the poor kids, but that's part of the social contract if one believes in public education.

What's the alternative? To say "we are keeping the public school money for ourselves" may mean you end up with better schools, but the poor school across town gets worse. Which leads to increased poverty, higher crime, social decay. It is an abandonment of poor kids to themselves, and an abdication of the social contract.

it's not about money. or teachers.

the poor schools are bad because of the students that inhabit the schools. good schools are good b/c of their students

it's not about race, money, teachers, curriculum. it's about the quality of student. you give me the population of an NBR shite show school and the population of one of those elite highland park schools in dallas. flip the locations of the populations and leave everything else the same. which group do you think will test better after one year?

According to the attendance zone maps the kids do attend the schools in their "home" attendance zones. More than likely transfers buses are for kids that opt out of their assigned school b/c it is in a recovery district. Although I'm not certain this is the case, I just know what is displayed on the map.

Ok, and? Who's fault is that? So because the school is shitty, no one should have to go there? If EBR is such a great school district, shouldn't the schools be great across the board? work on improving the shitty schools instead of bussing the kids all over the city.

bullshite. I know for a fact that kids are shipped to my kid's school so that there will be a proper ratio. They were even going to attempt to send my child to Broadmoor next year via transfer bus, even though I live in the 70817.

No one should have to go to or send their kids to a school that they don't like.
