So if you want your community away from an abysmal, dysfunctional school system, you're a segregationist.

It's really not fair to the proponents of St. George.

It's a failed experiment. The place was better off segregated IMO.

I'd like to say I'm surprised this comment has more upvotes than down...

At least you're honest.

How so? I never mentioned race. I just stated that in a given population if 80% of that population lives below the poverty limit then that population will not have a school system that is on par with a population where there better distribution of means. This applies to Livingston Parish, S. Dakota, Alaska, or EBR.

I didn't assume that the 80% was comprised of a single race. You did so maybe you should point to yourself as the racist. I just repeated a stat that I heard on the radio two years ago.

Once again, if you're claiming to be a top school district like EBR does, then the schools should be legit across the board. If there are schools that aren't doing well, then they need to focus on improving those schools. Don't make the schools who are doing well suffer.

Well if that's the case, I will stand corrected. I only know what the maps show and only assumed they are accurate.

Part of the problem is simply the number of schools. There is currently ONE public high school in all of st.George!

Why all the transfer busses?

Jagoff, serious question, where are these transfer busses doing transfers at? I haven't seen them since the deseg case ended years ago

This is the same as the Baton Rouge Taxi argument. Why build schools without students? The white kids have been going to private schools for 30-40 years.

And by the way Lee High is being built which will take primarily St George area students

And it is the newest high school built from the ground up in the EBR system.

Is it overcrowded? I've seen nothing indicating Woodlawn High is overcrowded.

If it isn't why should taxpayers' money be spent on new facilities that aren't needed?

Yes and that one school only has 3% of its classes with over 30 students. Their doesn't appear to be a demand for new schools until parents decide to pull their kids out of private schools. This is when the school system will improve, but no one will pull their kids out until the schools improve. Unfortunately we can't have one without the other.

Therefore, we will continue to try to fix something that won't be fixed.

Only a portion of St.George is districted to Woodlawn, so I'm not sure what your point is.

And one of the other portions is having one of the soon to be top schools in the state built for it

Which gives preference to its districted students. which will probably be everything east of Acadian/Stanford and south of I-10

EDIT: I forgot St George is going to build schools better than magnets in every neighborhood. Sorry for the confusion
