And vice versa? I can understand if you are in a large vehicle but I normally see people in a regular sized vehicle doing this.

As often as I see this I guarantee there is someone posting here right now that does this. I would love to hear an explanation .

Even then, if you don't know how to drive your vehicle you need to get another one.

It's laziness, not wanting to turn the wheel all the way. Same goes for people who don't use their blinkers and left lane loafers.

Many actually turn like they're pulling a forty foot trailer, driving a Mazda 3.

Its called "fading into a turn".

It's a bad habit that people get into when they're learning to drive and if they "fade the turn" in the beginning it generally sticks for life.

It's almost like when you're first learning to drive and when you check your blind spot with your whole body instead of just your head and swerve the car... Bad habits that go uncorrected...

Gotta hit the apex.

I mean, I've done it before on wide open roads to lessen braking and give me a smoother turn in, but never on busy roads. I do see plenty of people that do it on busy streets, so I know what you're talking about.

I feel like those people should have their licenses revoked. I would assume some/many are stupid enough to think that they're gonna hit the curb, not realizing that to remedy that concern you just pull forward a bit further before turning. Effing idiots.

This is how I got in my first wreck. I was a teenager and following behind a F150 on a neighborhood street. The F150 veered far left to make a right turn into a driveway (no blinker). He pulled for far left that I thought he was parking on the left side of the street and started to pass in the right lane. He then swung back right and I hit his front quarter panel.

It's like an epidemic. It's terrible. I'd say most don't even realize they are doing it.

I have similar issues with people that do not enter into the intersection further before making the left turn (effectively making the turn more square). Very noticeable when you have two turning lanes, the right lane tends to cross the line and force the left lane closer to the traffic/curb.

I make Speed Racer sound effects to myself while I'm doing it. Not only does it make it seem cooler, I'm pretty sure I get extra speed too.

I do it when making a turn onto a residential street from a divided roadway.

Doing it allows me to make the turn without braking as hard or slowing down as much, so I don't hinder vehicles behind me. It also makes for a more stabilized right turn.

eta- I never leave my lane. But If I'm turning froma 45 mph road to a 20 mph road, and I don't want to slow down below 20 on the turn this going slightly wide to the left then turning right makes it so I can maintain speed, slow a little and not have to nearly stop.

People who slow down to less than 5mph to make a right turn are the ones your ire should be focused on.
