I've gotta great car for sale. It has low mileage and handles like a dream. Yeah it might be a little bit on fire, but if you can't look past the flames and see what a deal this car is, you are overlooking all the other great things, then sorry man.

lol. what a terrible analogy.

Sounds like you two have finally seen the light. Just don't go to church. You won't be struck down by lightning, I promise.

Everytime I go to Catholic mass, which is only for weddings, I get the weirdest vibe when the priest says something and everyone mumbles a memorized phrase. It feels cult-ish. I just smile to myself . But hey if that's your thing then go for it.

Because if a teenager claims to be "non-conformist" but proceeds to dress and act and talk like all the other "non-conformists"...he's actually just conforming to a different norm.

More like meaning idk, just never saying never, I guess

I'm religious, but I've never understood/done the whole speaking in tongues thing. Freaks me out.

You clearly have never attended a non-denominational church then.

those Catholics never give Christians a bad name....

Oh they absolutely do. Although I am catholic, I realize the corruption that is rampant and the horrible cover up of sexual abuse. But the church does not condone that and individuals will always frick up. Doesn't mean that the Faith isn't true in my eyes.

At least the Catholic Church doesn't deny evolution, believe in young earth shite, and just flat out stick their head in the sand on scientific issues. For instance, Catholics don't believe in praying the gay away or any other nonsense like that.

I truly believe the Protestants keep Christianity as backwards looking.

First, theologically, it's not really possible unless you're a deconstructionist. And, if you're a true deconstructionist, you more than likely wouldn't be Christian at all. Secondly, it is the new marketing ploy for these mega churches so they can attract the new, deconstructionist, "I'm not like those other people", hipster-type people.

You aren't going to a rock show. Since when is mass supposed to entertain you?

One would think that while not entertainment that a person should be able "to get something" out of church, e.g. guidance, support, enlightenment, etc. Although I would also question someone who claims to be a religion but gets nothing out of following the tenets of that religion, but I guess that seems typical to me.

I thought it was solid. Nothing in the car matters if you can't get in it because of the fire. Kinda like any message that a church might try to teach is immediately undercut by people pretending to be possessed and proving that the whole thing is fictional.

How am I supposed to take a priest seriously when he says to love my brother, if the same guy is playing make believe with attention whores at the same time? It cheapens the message.

I wonder how successful I'd be if I opened up a new church where no "hell" exists. how many of these dumb sheep would follow?

I probably could be the richest sumbitch in my parish.

There's nothing worse than the typical young, metrosexual, androgynous, "hip" pastors. They seriously creep me out.

I worked with a guy whose cousin was a big tongue speaker. He caught his cousin practicing on several occasions.

Yes, that is correct. In general, it's many Protestant denoms (33k+ and counting!) that spew anti science, young earth, pray the gay away, etc etc

Typical lawyer, playing semantics with religion. You can't file a motion to get into heaven Sabi, give it up.

My church has been around for over 50 years....so it isn't some new megachurch. Not all non-denom churchs are the same is all I'm trying to say. Mine teaches sermons straight from the bible. No speaking in tongues and running up and down the aisles in theatrics.

My mother in law has a hilarious story about speaking in tongues.

She is Catholic, and as a young wife (20-ish) she moves to rural England with her military husband and young son (my husband). She is bombarded by these fanatical door to door religious zealot older ladies, and being young, naïve, and lonely, lets them in once since they brought tea and biscuits.

They spend 30 minutes encouraging her to speak in tongues, and finally she gives in and says, "yabba dabba Doo!" Over and over again to their delight and her amusement.

Finally she told them she was Catholic, ushered them out, and refused to answer when they came again.

TL;DR: English ladies in the late 1970s never heard of Fred Flintstone and thought his catch phrase was The Holy Spirit manifesting itself in my mother in law.
