It's no different than looking at the sun on any other day. But they're assuming that people will stare (who wouldn't?), which can definitely damage your eyes. If you stare at the sun right now for a while it will damage your eyes. Just watch for the shadow and once it's pretty covered look up for a sec and look away, you'll be fine.

The best part about the eclipse: it will be over shortly, and I won't have to hear about it anymore.

How do we know that all of these viewing glasses made in China actually provide protection?

The same amount as if your stared at the sun any other day.
So I'll be ok if I stare at it for like 10 minutes at a time?

I'll take my chances. I've been watching a lot of Daredevil lately so worst case scenario I'll become a superhero

My stepdad is taking care of our protective gear. The welding glasses and masks are both shade 10, so we will use wear the glasses underneath. I'm really looking forward to this, hopefully the weather will cooperate!

It's an excused absence in my parish. The kids aren't even allowed outside. Too dangerous.

So if your pets are inside, what about horses, cows?
What about deer, birds, squirrels and raccoons? Lots of work to be done here.

Nah I don't think it's snowflaky to prevent little kids from staring at the sun My lil man is watching it with us instead of watching the NASA live stream at school.
But I know you were kidding.
