I am sure the truck had a confederate flag which triggered these normally calm youths to act out.

Two way different things here. Obviously you have the right to defend yourself (or someone else for that matter) with deadly force when threatened.

BUT, and this is very important, you absolutely do NOT have the right to use deadly force to defend your property absent a threat to yourself or someone else. People mess this up and go to jail all the time. "I shot them because they were stealing the truck." ='s a likely charge of murder. "I shot them because as they were stealing the truck they pointed a gun at me and I was in fear for my life." ='s justifiable homocide.

One has a chance to learn from this lesson. Maybe he'll go on to college and work with kids like him to make them see that a life of crime can lead to your own death and destruction. I'm sure he'll reform after this life changing experience and not be bitter because his friend was killed by that mean white guy.

He'll likely be charged with 2nd degree murder in his co-conspirators death. La. RS 14:30.1(A)(2).

Does the store have decent external cameras? Can we expect video of the event?

It's a very outdated location. As Gary said, they are building a brand new one adjacent to it. I talked to the construction guys, the new one should open this month.

And i'm armed. Always. I would never fire into a vehicle that was just stolen from me by force. Would i be pissed off? Damn straight i would. But i would not fire into a vehicle that was stolen from me. Did this happen? Evidently not but the story reads weird to me. Glad the State Police aren't charging this guy with anything.

I'd probably shoot my own tire.

If that results in provocation and they fire a few shots back, they get to learn that holding a gun sideways does not lend itself to accurate shooting.

What's weird? The State Policeman explained it clearly.

quote:

"Someone pulls a gun on you and orders you out of a car, you have every right to defend yourself." Les Wallace, a Louisiana State Police conceal carry instructor, agrees. "This individual was obviously afraid for his life, had two people coming at him as aggressors."

Odds the pistol they used was taken out of someone's car in Broadmoor in the last month or so?

urban youths coming into the neighborhood and looking for easy targets

mostly lock checking vehicles parked on the street or bikes left in the front yard

the main issue is that these are all juveniles, and since they are arrested as non violent offenders, they get released the same day

its not just Broadmoor either, South Highlands, Captain Shreve and other surrounding neighborhoods are getting hit as well

This further proves Shreveport is part of Texas.
