Did any of you old timers ever get it in with those dime pieces on Sprague St?

Deli Casino is my family's place and Sam and Dayle joke they'll be there till they drop. Thank god because those sandwiches are incredible. If you haven't tried it or not been in a while I strongly suggest you put it in rotation. Gambler is my personal favorite but I try to mix it up.

I told them dont ever retire, but if they ever do call me and i will buy that place and promise to not change a thing. They know my family by name, have been going there since before i remember. I hope they realize i am not joking.

Possibly.
Depends on whether you were a regular of Big D's or like myself, an occasional visitor while I remained under the legal drinking age. Great times in that bar. Watching PSU beat UM in the 1987 Fiesta Bowl stands out as one of them.

Dancin Francis made me think of

Disco Dale. That guy was a legend in his mind at Cowboys.

Vaguely... I spent my 1st 5 years on Milton Lane... I remember the Foremost (might be a different brand) store close to where I lived.

That was many decades ago... lol

Best sandwich you will ever eat in your life!!!!

Couple of ramblings:

The Pirates games were so much fun, but god damn at 7pm in July it was still way into the 90s.

Leon, of Leons Barbeque is a professional gambler, high stakes and does really well.

George of Georges Grill died a year ago maybe two.

Captains games were fun and lots of big time players played there. And if a home stand the players were always in the Rusty Nail or the Cub after the games.

The Independence Bowl was a lot of fun in the first 5 years or so, the two LSU games were awesome.

When I was little Sansone's, Brocato's or Abe's for fine dining all really good.

I feel like an outcast. In my 28 years I have never been to Deli Casino. This must change soon.

Ate lunch there today- the menu sandwiches are good, but I'm stuck on my own personal create-your-own: turkey, roast beef, lettuce, tomato, pickle, olive mix, mushrooms, provolone, mayo and spicy mustard. 9 inch with chips and a drink. Price is a little high, but it's worth it, esp since all I have to do is cross Kings to get there.

Lots of stuff in this thread brings up many memories, but did y'all ever go to the ski tournaments on Champion Lake? I went to the last 2 or 3 they had back in the 90's/early 2000's and I thought it was cool, but inwas seeing those tricks live for the first time.
-Pony Land (by the Elk's where the baseball field is now) $5 for 20 minutes on a horse, or something like that. Go all back in the trails down by the swamp
-Ben's Southern Sno-Cones. Probably just the same as the others, but coming back from the Elk's Club, there was nothing better

Jim and Julie at the Rusty Nail

Murrells

Strawns

Monjunnis

Stand Theatre

Denim and Diamonds

The Hole in the Square night club

Cowboys (Now called Rockin Rodeo)

Southwood vs Woodlawn Rivalry

The Captains playing at SPAR stadium with "The Preacher" selling ice cold beer.

Watching Darrell Strawberry, Dwight Gooden playing here with the Jackson Mets.

All of the numerous big league players that played here with the Captains...Scott Garrelts, Rob Deer, Terry Pendelton et al.

To all those talkin shite about the Port City...go frick yourself. I have lived or worked in every major city in LA so don't try and make it seem like SBC is worse than anywhere else.

I loved that place, haven't thought about it in years. I would drive my parents crazy trying to get them to buy me one of those bears they had hanging on the wall
