has caused a stir among some Calandro’s customers and raised allegations of racism against the 75-year-old neighborhood institution. The woman, Lani Gholston, is black.
Is it strange to you why someone would place groceries into a reusable bag (from a competitor store) when there are shopping carts and hand baskets at the front of the store for all to use?
It seems that she was trying to make a scene or she is just thoughtless putting the groceries that were never paid for into a personal bag.
While she may not have cried racism, her posse' certainly did with all the requests about why Calandro's doesn't take EBT or if they plan to going forward. The writer of the story certainly cited racism.

Do black people and SJW's not realize how demeaning it is to make a Black lawyer issue into an EBT issue?
I mean just because I'm white doesn't mean I associate with all white people. Maybe she shopped in calandros to get away from the poors too, I'm pretty sure well off black people hate poor whites as well as well off white people hate poor whites.

ETA2: What I'm gathering is that you think she's full of shite, for some reason that is beyond me. Maybe you can shed some light on that.

And as I said earlier. My only issue with her is if she wanted to end it she could have done so when the BRBR called and said "there's nothing to discuss the situation is over"

its 2017, why would a place not?
It should be part of a business license. You operate a store over x square feet, you take EBT
The second Costco started taking EBT in BR these things happened:
1) buggies left everywhere
2) loud and obnoxious kids running wild
3) she beasts gorging on the free samples
4) thefts increased
5) trash on floor
6) broken product everywhere
7) influx of Livingston trash
8) influx of north baton rouge trash
EBT is a scourge on this state.

I'd like to thank everyone for their support, care and compassion regarding my recent incident. There is much hurt among citizens of Baton Rouge and I sincerely hope that from this will spring meaningful opportunities to discuss and engage as we move forward.
I acknowledge that members of the Calandro family have reached out and will be in touch when I am best able to articulate the profound impact this experience has had on me.
I hope the discourse around this incident remains civil and am grateful for the support and trust from friends near and far.

Yoo work there as a manager?

Those "progressive" neighbors should keep this in mind.
Capital Heights commands some of the highest per square foot real estate in town.
The surrounding neighborhood around calandro's does NOT reflect the racial makeup of Baton Rouge.
Perhaps our good progressives should offer to allocate THEIR property toward the cause of racial and class inclusion. Perhaps they could sell or rent at reduced rates. Perhaps they could encourage Section 8 housing units or half way houses for released convicts.

Not at all.
Is this your standard operating procedure when you shop for groceries? Say you walked into their store and started loading items into one of these bags.
I wonder if anyone would get looked at suspiciously by a loss prevention officer?
I would love to see the TJ bag she took into the store and started loading up. If it looked like the one's pictured above, I could understand someone being suspicious of shop lifting.
If that's what happened and Calandro's admitted that they made a mistake and apologized, then, story over.
If legal action ensues, then I guess we know what happened.

These shite stirrers for the most part don't live in Capital Heights.

As a taxpayer, I would be highly opposed to the use of taxpayer funded food stamp being spent at overpriced boutique grocery stores. Wal-Mart and Winn Dixie (I shop at both without food stamps) give you the most bang for your food buck. If you are so poor as to require food stamps, you can't be blowing it on luxuries like garlic-infused butter and imported Orangina.
