You have no idea what you are talking about. Most companies adjust salaries based on where you are located. And Louisiana is on the lower end of the salary bands.

That don't sound right. Systems Analysts are getting more than that with a few years experience and less coding.

I made more than that in IT in BR like 17 years ago. But pay in LA is lower than larger markets for sure.

I have had people approach me about jobs over the last 5 years and some of the salary offers were pretty low to me. I think it just depends on the company/industry.

I have skills, and that is exactly what I started at in my IT job a year ago.

Local companies who staff their own IT in the Lafayette area were not paying that to new hires.

You probably make well into 6 figures doing so in Silicon Valley but are living in a van down by the river because housing is fricking insane.

Silicone valley isn’t the only region paying 6 figures for sw developers, not sure why some of you keep using that as the example. Shouldn’t be surprised, Louisiana education at work

is the COL in say BR really significantly less than living in sugar land or king world or some outer loop burb in htown? we can throw out the cost of private schools that are more likely necessary in BR. i don’t put much stock in the calculators. what do you baws think?

You don't have to pay for private schools in the suburbs here either.

It sounds like Darrell applied at a Bank. That salary is in line with the banking industry for a developer. Solutions Architects are pulling in over three times that in cash alone, not total comp.

I must not see the lower cost of living in LA that everyone else is seeing. Everything is expensive as hell

Some companies around here try to pay regionally competitive although I'm sure some try to low ball candidates too.

We haven't had much problem hiring people from other states for remote jobs so either we are competitive with what they'd get locally or they are willing to take less to WFH.

Local companies don't pay much in LA. Need to latch on with BiCorp and ride that toxic train.

Those people may come out ahead, considering what it cost to live in the larger urban areas.

I don't see how in the hell New Orleans is so expensive except for the fact that theres literally no livable space left so demand focuses on very narrow patches of real estate.
