Son of a son of a bitch. I loved Pina Coladaburg. RIP.

Son of a son of a Sailor one of my favorites.
It’s my favorite Buffet song and top 10 all time song for me.

He was in three films I know of. Hook as one of the Pirates. Congo as a pilot. Rancho Deluxe
He was also in a movie called Cobb, starring Tommy Lee Jones as Ty Cobb. Buffett played a 1 armed heckler sitting on the third base line. Me and my family were paid extras in the movie and Jimmy put on a concert after filming that day (was filmed at a historically old baseball field outside Birmingham). It was the first time I’d ever smelled weed in my life. Not sure what my mom was thinking having a 10 year old there
RIP Jimmy

In the early 90's I bartended and there were two songs that played over and over on the jukebox... "Something to talk about" by Bonnie Raitt and "Cheeseburger in Paradise"... I got so sick of hearing those two songs.. But that was saved by "Mardi Gras Mambo" during the season... I would scream out does anyone know any other songs?

What a shitty headline to wake up to. Prayed it was fake til I checked his socials. I've been a fan since I was an infant, and my dad would sing his songs to me while he rocked me to sleep. We'd see him almost every summer while I was growing up. I'd guess I've seen him around 20 times all together. Been to lots of other concerts, but his were always special. Thankful for the memories and the music. Sail on sailor

you people let politics turn your brains to mush smh
Agreed.
Jimmy was a capitalist. So what. He was also pretty liberal in his later life. So what. I didn’t listen to his music because of politics. His songs and shows were free from all of that and transferred you to the beach at any time listening.
He also wasn’t the greatest singer songwriter…. So what! No artist out writes a hit every time.
He got to live his life doing what he wanted and brought joy to millions. May he RIP!

My ex was a fan so I got to see him back in the 90's.
Anyone seen my lost shaker of salt?

RIP to a legend. He would sometimes pop up on Folly Beach to surf and relax and he was always super kind to anyone that talked to him, but most folks knew to just let him do his thing.

RIP Jimmy. Never got the chance to see him but his style will be missed.
The very first concert I went to, at LSU PMAC circa 1989-90; I was in HS at the time too. Was freakin awesome.

Some of his songs were written for this movie.

He used to show up at Jazz Fest 1970’s my father was huge fan I grew up on his music. In addition to catching him at JF we went to several concerts. He would always show up in a bar in NO area under a cover name. And back in the day with no cell phones it was nice because if you were a fan you recognized those “fake band” names and got to see a great show.

Jimmy got caught smokin' a joint
Out behind the bar, sittin' in his car
And they took him to jail
The tip jar paid his bail
In 1984 Mick Jagger passed through town
Bought the house a round
Signed his name on the wall
In the Ladies bathroom stall, yeah

His very early country music like the sound track for Rancho Delux was very good.

I read his collection of short stories. They were amusing but clearly written by an aspiring writer rather than an accomplished one. I love his music, though, because it puts a smile on your face. And we need more art like that.
