Geez. This probably won't end well.

They are communicating. So that's good

Hope it goes well but these situations usually don't.

Yikes.

How the heck did he get all the way to the door? I don't know much about these things but do they keep em full? The pressure on their bodies at the bottom has to be intense

It usually doesn't. Some recent good news.

One of the men has been given an IV after making contact with the rescue squad.

Chief Jerry Lung said rescue crews are pumping oxygen into the bin and working on ways to get them out safely.

Throw in some water, sugar, and yeast, check back in a couple months and they'll have staggered out

Seriously though, hope all comes out good.

That sucks. Grain entrapment is scary.

And my husband says I shouldn't worry ... we've got some huge arse rice bins and I used to worry when my kids were little that they'd find a way in and fall through the rice.

How do they get to door and are able to be given an IV but can't get out of the door? I have no idea how these things are made.

Never been in a grain bin....is standing on it like quicksand? The more you move the more you sink?

At least with ours (I guess there could be different types) grain goes up an elevator and into the bins from the top. There is/are door/doors that can be opened but they're of course on the bottom. Rice packs pretty solidly -- I don't know how they'd fall through the rice unless perhaps there was a void?? My husband and his crew stand on TOP of the rice to level the rice so that it doesn't "stack burn".

Then when you want to empty the bin, I believe they use the elevator in the opposite direction to get the rice out of the bins and through the chute into the trucks to take to the mill or barge or whatever.

That's what I'm assuming. There's an access door at the top. My dad nearly fell in ours when I was younger.

Not in ours I don't think -- unless somehow there is a void/air pocket. Husband stands on top and levels the rice after a days harvest.

eta: Yes there are access doors at the top typically for ventilation but again, if it's rice it should be pretty firm from what I gather from my husband.
