Forgive my ignorance as I can't play the video and only see the pictures, but A) how does this happen to two people? and B) is cutting into the side more effective than trying to remove them from above?

ETA: From the link at the bottom of page 1 -

Still wonder how this happens to two people. Also, if walking on the grain is SOP, and grain entrapment is such a big issue, why is it allowed?

Why can't they just cut a huge hole in the side of the bin?

They tried to take some pictures of the trapped men to determine their position, but the photos came out grainy

I know grain dust is extremely flammable so that might be why they can't cut. A spark would cause an explosion.

Serious question. How much is the grain in that bin worth? I would imagine the sheer volume would need to be spread over a fairly large surface area, not that two lives aren't worth wasting a large portion of crops.

Ya, little known fact is that apparently, any kind of dust in general is a fire risk. Didn't know that and saw some silo explosions.

I'm not sure. They may have had the auger on.

One guy could've been submerged in the grain and the other guy tried to help him and also became submerged.

eta: Here's a graphic I found

I would literally start trying to eat myself to freedom

That's not unusual. It's when the pressure on their bodies is released is when they start going downhill quickly.

So it is likely that both men failed to tie off? After a little reading that seems to be the OSHA recommendation if you have to enter the storage facility.
