If you can get into the Catholic system here, do it; plain and simple.

I've heard great things about each of those schools.

That really isn't true. At least not with the parents I've been involved with.

I'd say St Aloysius is more like that than St George.

Episcopal and it's not even close.

A point to consider regarding tuition. Many schools have lower tuition, but then will nickel and dime you to death. When we were at EHS, the tuition was the whole package including books and meals. They also didn't have you selling wrapping paper 5 times a year. Just that greenery stuff at Christmas. Things may have changed, but that was my experience.

Thank you, and we realize its a little backwards. Our intention for living out here didn't have much if anything to do with schools. Moved to ascension (albeit, we are less than a mile from EBR parish line) just because we wanted to. We love it but already know that a move back to BR, although not far into BR from ascension, will happen within 3-5 years. So location certainly might suck for a year or two at most, but your insight is certainly appreciated. Next home will likely be pretty close to all the schools I'm asking about.

so they had 1 fund raiser, which is what the catholic schools do.

To say "it's not even close" is pretty stupid if you're comparing St George versus Episcopal. Especially if you factor in the difference in tuition.

Picc, we lived in Ascension right by Santa Maria. EHS had a group bus stop at CCLA, so we would just take the kid there and he would ride the bus in the morning and one of us would pick him up in the afternoon. It was a good arrangement.

St James anyone?

St. James is absolutely a good move as well. If you don't want your kids to spend everyday from K-12 on the same campus send them to St. James (goes up to fifth grade) and have them feed into EHS. As much of a supporter as I am of Episcopal high and middle school, St. James is as good of an elementary education for a better price in a smaller learnings environment. Something about the St. James community being as old as it is and connected to the church is special to be apart of.

Kid from St. Michael seem to do fine in college. They are also on LSU's list of preferred schools.

Only input I have is it's disappointing to see how certain private schools have used the voucher system for athletic recruiting, Though not entirely surprising given the history of a few of the schools. That's been the biggest hypocrisy with that system and I'm glad the school my children attend didn't go that route.

This is not the case at Episcopal. A group of parents several years ago created the E100, which is 100 families dedicated to athletics, not affiliated with Squires. It's purpose was to recruit for football, basketball and baseball. It was shot down in those regards and is now used for various other wish list items. They do have some financial aid available but it is limited and mostly used on non athletes.

My kids go there. When they get home they have a good bit of homework most nights and it has taken awhile for them to realize the neighborhood kids that mainly go to St George and MBS are out playing while they are inside studying.

Not sure if that means anything but it is the truth. Of course my kids grind it out and work for what they have so maybe they just have to work harder than some.

I went to Episcopal from kindergarten to graduation. Many of my classmates came in from St. James and St. Luke's in 6th grade. I remember my senior year several teachers said that the students that seemed to excel and have better grades were the ones that came from St. James. FWIW

My nieces go there too. We live in Central School district and a neighbor told us their girls are going to St. Josephs and was saying how expensive it is. I said why not go to St. Michael's. She said, "St. Michael's is basically Central High with Catholic religion". I was like ouch.

St James, St Lukes and Trinity Episcopal are all very good schools. I was under the assumption Picc wanted something closer.

And Episcopal lower school campus is on one side of the school with limited interaction with upper and middle school.

Also I don't think the bus stop is at CCLA anymore since they went to First Student buses but I could be wrong. I do know the late bus is not there anymore. The bus runs roughly an additional $2500.00 a year but if you run the cost of your time, fuel etc...it evens out pretty close if you are delivering and picking up.

It never fails. There is always someone from each school that wants to talk about how much more their kid is learning. How they work so much harder at this school over that school. How their kid is taking sophomore level math in 8th grade. Whatever the latest BS is.

Really, you are up to speed with how much homework those kids that are "outside playing" have? You think you know the situation? My son plays soccer on a team full of kids from St George, St Jude, Episcopal, and St Aloysius. They all talk about what they have to do and it's all the same crap.

I understand you want to feel better about the school you chose and the tuition you are paying. But you don't have to blow smoke up your own arse and everyone else's to try and feel better about it.

They all are held to the same standards by the diocese

The difference is in environment.
