Episcopal and it really isn't even close. Its not close to 30K and you absolutely get what you pay for in terms of education and college placement. The campus is very nice and is similar in size to a small college. The facilities for academics, athletics and arts are as the nicest in the state and as nice as you will find anywhere. Although some people think it automatically carries a snobby attitude, it is the best all around education money can buy in Baton Rouge.

Anyone know anything about the International School of BR? LINK

Yep, I went there for 4 years and the only transfer student we had come in came from a public school and transferred completely for athletic reasons.
Yeah, I can only think of one kid that transferred in.

I know a two year old that finally got into IS after being on waiting list since conception. Apparently it's a great school.

Sorry that your kid didn't get into the magnet program.

Good school for preschool and younger grades. I wouldn't keep them there past elementary though, because the class sizes shrink dramatically the higher up you go. From what I've heard, they've tried to solve the attrition problem by allowing non-fluent speakers to enter in the upper grades, but this has diluted the program's strength; not sure how that has actually played out. (It used to be you had to enter by 1st grade unless you were fluent in either French or Spanish already.)

There is really no difference. St jude has been at or above both in the test scores they do (they don't make that public knowledge). The three schools are about the same.
St jude is smaller (2 sections versus 4 or 5). athletically they all compete the same. Every boy from 8th grade this year (except 2 who chose a public) is going to catholic.

Go check University lab school. Great school when I went there and great school from a patents perspective as well.

Picc; I'm somewhat of an expert on the topic. Find me and ask :-)

If you are a parent who's already "wealthy", then you're playing almost 20 grand counting taxes per year...then, there's sports and the annual giving (which if you are cheap, then no...30 a year is not the cost). I speak with a parent of Episcopal once-twice a week and this is what he pays.
I AM an Episcopal parent and whoever you are speaking to is lying. I've been paying for several for the last 15 years.

Only input I have is it's disappointing to see how certain private schools have used the voucher system for athletic recruiting, Though not entirely surprising given the history of a few of the schools. That's been the biggest hypocrisy with that system and I'm glad the school my children attend didn't go that route.

Wait... you put that as a con? That's definitely in my pros column.
If you want diversity, send him to Capitol or Glen Oaks.

I would also suggest checking out Runnels. It doesn't have the same cachet that Episcopal does, granted. But for us that's part of the attraction. Solid academics, emphasis on arts, pretty relaxed and not so uptight about conformity.
If location is one of your concerns, it is just down Harrels Ferry from Episcopal.

Runnels always had the rep of having all the "weird" kids for a long time. I don't know if that has changed or not.

Episcopal = 20k
Uhigh = 5k and just as good if not better education

That is because they encourage individuality and value creativity over conformity. I can understand why kids might perceive it that way, but as an adult, I am happy my kids are in school somewhere they are allowed and encourage to be themselves.

keep hearing this. many people love it---but i have a few concerns. didn't see a music program (band, strings, choir) listed on website, and wasn't sure how the Catholic sacraments fit into school. Ie where do they make First Communion, etc?
Sir Drinksalot: I don't know how to find you. Hint, porfavor.
to those recommending U high and the like...I know it's a wonderful school but location wise it isn't in the radius/proximity of interest.
Thanks for the helpful feedback
