What are the sure fire methods to get the teacher to bump that shite up a letter?

Was he in class the whole semester? I took 5 classes one summer to graduate and had 4 A's and 1 B. I pleaded with the B teacher and got him to raise it to an A and used attendance as my argument.

Only semester in college I had all A's. My very first semester I had A-B, other than that every report card I had featured at least one C or lower.

I had a teacher call me into his office the day before grades were due to ask me why I hadn't turned in a single project all year and that he couldn't pass me. I blew up because I had done every assignment that semester and turned them in. He asked me if I had copies of the assignment, but I didn't because they were all handouts he had given us. What was I supposed to do? Xerox them all before turning them in and keep a record? Anyways, he was going to fail me and I was going to appeal. I check my grades the next day and I had a B. Don't know what happened. Maybe he didn't feel like going through an appeal. I don't know.

Damn. That's some shite.

The time to do the grade grubbing is DURING the semester. Not at the end. If you sit down with me after a test and go over your thought process, I may see where you were coming from and give you some credit.

Coming in right at the end and just begging for a grade adjustment is annoying.

I knew of a girl that got an F in the class, and she told the professor that she would soon be switching majors and asked him not to fail her. He ended up giving her a D.

4) Don't push it. They aren't changing a C to an A. They might bump an F or D+ to a C- though. Usually the higher up the grades are, the less likely you will get it changed. B+ to an A? Forget it, it's a slap in the face to people who worked to receive an A. Same time I don't overly like failing anyone.

To be honest, that seems kind of messed up. You'll skyrocket some shitbird's grade so his lazy arse can live to coast another semester but somebody that (probably) busted their arse to get a high B won't get a couple of extra points for that A.

And, for the record, barring extraordinary circumstances, I don't believe in grade revisions at all but it seems like your criteria is working in the wrong order.

Depends on the class.

4 exams all equally weighted? Yeah, they should have come in earlier.

Various small activities throughout the semester with one very large paper and one heavily weighted final exam at the end? You're going to see me at the end if there is an issue.

I took quite a few classes in college where I didn't really know even a roundabout of where I'd end up at the end of the semester because the coursework was set up in a way that left it a mystery.

Well that's fine if you want to talk about the large paper or final exam at the end.

I never taught a class where the final could make/break you though. It was pretty much equal throughout. If you do badly on the first test, you should probably drop the class.

Had a C in one class and professor let us review our tests from the semester. While reviewing, I found 2-3 mistakes on the scantron. (Answers I marked correct but marked wrong)

That was enough to raise final grade to a B.

I look at it more from the point of view that students generally work very hard to get an A. Most times I find talented students end up with a High B due to laziness more so than the opposite. Then they end up at the end of the semester tying to chisel a few extra points on the GPA. Its more of an entitlement issue when it comes to the higher grades.

True story: I handed the professor a bottle of vodka, and he said that he probably needed to pass me so he didn't have see me in his class anymore and grade any more of my work...

Whatever works...

Never had a class grade changed but had a few papers changed. Went to the prof, asked for an explanation of why I got whatever grade, and asked if I could argue my stance. Most just changed it after I presented my side, had one tell me to re-write and elaborate more. All just wanted to see some effort and were willing to help out. Like others have said, if she hadnt been attending class, and doing all assignments then she is probably SOL.

I've never done it. I've wanted to; I've even visited with my professor after receiving a grade I was unhappy with, but I could never bring myself to ask for a grade change. I wish I would have on certain occasions.. especially after hearing some friends' success stories for the same teachers.

Got an F bumped to a D after the final.

Found a mistake on one of my exams. Got me 2 extra points on that exam which put my overall grade a half a point over the cutoff. Never sweated so much in my life.

If you go to class and turn in assignments the professor may give you the grade, without you asking. I know a few times I earned a B but was given an A, because my professors liked me and I participated in class (I'm guessing that's why I was given the higher grade).

I think I've got a pretty good one.

My sophomore year I was still knocking out my core curriculum and had to take a geography class.

I signed up for GEOG 1103.

I show up for class on the first day and unwittingly walked into a GEOG 1113 class that just happened to be meeting at the same time, in the same building but across the hall from each other.

You know how core classes go. You don't even really remember exactly what the course was supposed to be. You just registered for it because it was on the list of courses you needed to take. GEOG 1103 was actually another of the options I could've taken, so that's probably why I didn't even notice. Especially when after a few assignments, the professor didn't say anything to me about me not being on the class roll. Attendance was taken by a clipboard being passed around and people writing their names.

Anywho...

I go through the ENTIRE semester, including taking the final, for GEOG 1113. When the final grades were posted outside the professor's door, I was included and I had gotten a B.

When it comes time to look at my official grade report, I see "GEOG 1103 - F".

I finally realized what I had happened. To make matters worse, I was approaching a checkpoint for my HOPE scholarship (like TOPS) to be evaluated, and this "F" would drop me below the threshold for keeping HOPE. On top of THAT, it was mid-December and offices would be closing soon for the holidays.

I basically went into full-on running around campus mode. First, emailed the professor of the GEOG 1103 class to explain what happened. He never replies (a-hole). Then I went to the professor of the GEOG 1113 class and explained the situation. He was cool about it and wrote me up a letter explaining that I did indeed take his class and got a "B" in his class. That helped, but wasn't going to erase the "F".

Then I went the Registrar and explained what happened to them. They sent me back to the GEOG 1113 professor to have him fill a change of grade form. That form had to go to the Geography Department Head and get signed off by him. THEN that had to get to the Dean of my college and get signed off by him. Then that form had to get to the registrars office.

Final result: Got the "F" dropped, and the "B" added.

Moral of the story kids: Pay attention to detail. Also, if you get in a bind and have to make things happen quickly, go see people in person. I could not imagine how long that process would've taken if I had tried to do it all via email.
