Typically this involves a lot of traveling all over the world. My question is where do people get money to do this from???

Typically it's someone right out of college or about to graduate when you ask them if they've squared away a job yet...they answer, "I'm not looking. Just going to take some time and do some traveling while figuring it out."

Or it's someone after going thru a divorce or whatever that quits their job to have time to 'figure it out'.

I recently knew a girl who hopped from job to job, never had any money and has been unemployed for some time now. She's going to Italy for a couple weeks to 'get away and figure some things out'

Is their some form of free travel i don't know about? I've traveled internationally a couple times for vacations and it's not cheap.

I would say most younger college age kids it's parents and family. Typically these kids come from upper class families, even though many times they can look like bums (I.e. hipsters).

But traveling alone can be really cheap. The plane ticket is usually the big expense, after that you can survive for as little as $20 a day in places like Europe if staying in hostels and whatnot. Even cheaper for less developed countries.

The funniest part about this instance is while they're traveling and partying their asses off they're not actually figuring anything out. It's just an excuse to go party in another country.

Parents are funding this sort of stuff at an alarming rate.

We're about five years from the shite hitting the fan. This generation of entitled kids is going to be hit hard by the real world. However, the ones that are solid are going to benefit from the entitled ones being so bad via quicker promotions, more opportunities, and higher incomes, which will turn some of these liberal pussies into conservatives.

I did this when I graduated. The plane and Europass money was my graduation gift from my parents. I hope to do the same for my son when the time comes. It was a great experience.

I guess to me it's more the mindset of a person in one of these situations. If I was unemployed for whatever reason or out of college needing to get my career going, the last thing on my mind would be taking vacations to 'figure it out'. I don't even know what 'figure it out' means? Isn't that what you've been doing the last few years in school???

I'm guessing she's reasonably hot. I had a friend that always had odd jobs but never stuck with them for very long, when she did work she would call in sick with a headache a good bit of the time. She'd go sailing with friends often. She always had enough money somehow.

Some people take out a loan. Not the brightest idea but it will get you there.

Another way is to make friends in college with international students. If they go back to live wherever they're from, you can visit them and crash at their place.

So enlighten us.....WTF did you "figure out".

I have no issue with someone saying, "I'm not ready to deal with shite right now and want to take a long relaxing vacation." Even if I don't think one may deserve or need it, at least you are calling it what it is. "Figuring it out" is kind of a cop out. It's a way to double down on not doing anything particularly productive. Which is perfectly fine, but don't lie to yourself and others about it.

It's also one thing to accept a job out of college but not set your start date till a month or so after graduation. Take a celebratory vacation or whatever if you have the means. I get it. But to just let everything go by the waist side to 'figure it out' doesn't make sense. Has anybody ever figured anything out????
