The timing of a tip is planned very poorly
By the time that I am asked for a tip, I have received everything that I want from the server and the restaurant. They have nothing more to offer me by this time.
Why else am I offering a tip except out of the kindness of my heart?
This especially is the case when traveling and never planning on going to those places again or for a very long time. Oh yeah, I do not believe in fairy tales like karma.

the only way to change it would be to make it law but its a 100% guarantee many of the people on here saying "Ahh frick them find a better job" would also be first in line to say "frick them and their minimum wage, why should my meal cost more?"

Should start looking for a different line of work. Serving is for cowards that can't do anything else in life.

I live off tips now
Still don't think they are automatic and that the system is retarded. Even worse is the "lets show the world how miserable we have it and shame these guys!!" It's just dumb.
Dude probably shouldn't be that big of a dick about it and he's lucky she didn't put in the tip as "$101"

I just had food and service so bad at Frank's in the quarter that I thought about stiffing. Not the servers fault though and she gratted 18% anyway.
Worst restaurant I've been to in the city by far.
Should of known, stupid tourist trap. One kid wanted red beans the other wanted pasta and this place had both on the menu. Passed up Irene's to eat there. Sadly Irene's would of been the same price

With the new tax laws you'll start to see gratuity become less and less prevalent.
