Sucks for the waitress though. She doesn't prepare the food. If she accommodated the party as well as she could, late food aside, she should have been tipped.

Gratuity is automatically added out here when the party is 8 or more. As long it is written in the final bill.

We don't have enough details here. I've been to restaurants before where the sever just gets lost for 30 mins. She may have done the same thing, who knows?
