While OU is a public institution, it's not like they're being arrested for their speech. I imagine it's a simple code of conduct issue. Free speech is irrelevant.

Government cannot take adverse action against free speech. Its not just limited to arrest and prosecution.

So do you think OU should've taken swift action against Joe Mixon when the video surfaced of him breaking a girls face? I agree in that case there was also no need for discussion, the video speaks for itself. Just wield the punishment and move on.

I don't know what you're talking about really, but, yea, if someone breaks a girls face, expel him..and then he'll get prosecuted too.

This isnt a free speech issue. If you said that chant on your job would you not get fired?

The racism spewing from some of you "good ole boys" is why they think all of us white people are racist. What those kids said was despicable. If they are so bold and brave and if its a free speech issue then why not chant it a school function?

That's where you are wrong, it will be extremely hard for them to ever get into another college.

What they said was offensive, ugly, backwards, and a ton of other adjectives. It is also protected by the constitution. If their speech occurred on any function connected to the school, the school has a right to take action. There should be a code of conduct. The company that I work for will punish an individual if they commit a crime off of the job. The question becomes, was a crime committed? Where I work, free speech has consequences. You can say it. But it will cost you your job.

I think there's a group dedicated to white loyalty, they even wear white outfits to match. You should look into them.

Good.

Free speech does not mean you are completely absolved of the consequences and repercussions of what you say. Their speech violated the student code of conduct that every student has to agree to before becoming a student. They gotta deal with it. The kids' lawyers have already said they will not be fighting the expulsion.

Everyone would laugh

This isnt a free speech issue.

We already went over this, according to every court to ever consider the issue it is 100% a free speech issue and covered by the Constitution.

The racism spewing from some of you "good ole boys" is why they think all of us white people are racist.

Who has been racist in here? At least in way you mean it?

What those kids said was despicable

Agreed

I don't think anyone is saying they are bold and/or brave and I doubt they even think they are

Chalk up another one who does not understand the first amendment.

I don't know if these are OU students or not. But if they are, should they be expelled too?

People keep saying this but it's so far from the truth that it's laughable.

I would consider that satire and not as bad as the original video.
