OU alum and my reply is the SAE's at OU have been assholes for years. Always in trouble and booted off campus at least 5 times in the last 30 years.

The had so many incidents that only Lloyds of London would insure them. Good bye and good riddance.

And I was a frat boy at OU 30 plus years ago and knew some decent SAE guys.

I have no problem with them being expelled. I know a private university would do it without hesitation I am just surprised a public university did it so quickly. You do stupid things you deserve to suffer the consequences.

ETA: I do think the person who filmed it and put it out there for the public to see should be expelled also

I think a harsher consequence would have been for those involved to have to live with the negative stigma that comes with being on that video.

Expelling them lets them off easy in my book,

Polisci professor touched on a case similar to this that happened here in connection with the Jena 6 deal a while back. Some idiot girl went down to the river and covered herself in mud and posted a video making fun of those involved. ULM got wind of it and expelled her for safety measures. They didn't want to be held responsible for something happening to her on campus.

Imagine the same reasoning went into this.

Hmmm ... I guess expulsion doesn't apply to an individual (who's already been accused of sexual assault) and who randomly jumps up on a table in the middle of the student union yelling, "frick her right in the pussy." ... Oh, that's right, he's a Heisman winning African American QB. Guess he just gets a half game suspension.

Not OU. Does not apply to this story. Good try though.

And FSU took heat for that, but decided they'd rather take a public image hit and win.

I would have kicked Winston out.

maybe because "frick her right in the pussy" is not really that offensive... immature, sure... but not offensive compared to singing a song about hanging blacks from trees

if he had said "frick her right in the pussy and then rape her corpse" i think the administration would not have been so easy on him.

They didn't have a problem allowing a certain wide receiver that was dismissed from Mizzou to enroll.

I guess it's understandable, all he did was beat up a female

Orly? Guess that depends on who you ask, which is exactly the point. There are insulting & offensive words, phrases, etc. for every race & gender. If people are going to be so utterly outraged at hearing it occasionally that a university president has to act like a grade school principal, then the punishment should be applied, equally, across the board. ... Or better yet, people can chalk up name calling to idiots being idiots & go on about their lives.

again.. "frick her right in the pussy" is not in the same ballpark has singing a celebratory song about black people hanging from trees. objectively speaking.

pull up any boring porn vid and you can hear the chick saying "frick me right in my pussy", i mean cmon.

True enough. Just making the point that if students making racist, sexist, etc. remarks are going to be punished by the administrations of universities, the punishment should be somewhat consistent among them.

Right, which is disappointing, but not surprising.

So this is bad arse no bullshite presidents Borens stand when a male breaks a females jaw and fractured her eye socket with a punch: LINK

quote:

"The judicial outcome and the video speak for themselves," Oklahoma President David L. Boren said. "The University is an educational institution, which always sets high standards that we hope will be upheld by our students. We hope that our students will all learn from those standards, but at the same time, we believe in second chances so that our students can learn and grow from life's experiences."

Dude is a huge hypocrite. Why is he being applauded?

Nothing except both OU & FSU are public state universities. Just pointing out hypocrisy & double standards regarding these types of issues, particularly when star athletes are involved.

Perception of said "offensive" words, phrases is what counts.
