Where would this VIN be? Maybe I gave the wrong number to the insurance places?

I did have to do the state police inspection but I don't remember getting a new title

I wouldn't do it unless you know the guy who salvaged it and you're talented yourself with vehicles.

If the frame was not damaged you should not have a problem.

Ah, the only other problem is the paint has started peeling on the hood so I need to get it repainted. The rest of it is fine so I assume he used cheaper paint than Cadillac

they give you a new one,a sticker that goes over the VIN on the door and paperwork stating it is the one to be used, not the one on the dash.

it must have been a reconditioned title then because you cannot register a salvage title.

Maybe they changed it in the last 4-5 years?

Last car was salvage title. Bought damaged at auction n family friend fixed. No issues with bank, registering or selling it. VW took it as a trade in for my new jetta. No issues at all.

First off, I've never ever heard of new VINS being issued. There are multiple places where the VIN is stamped on a vehicle so there is almost no way to change them all. You can still wash a title, people do that all the time.

Secondly, if you insure a salvage vehicle with any insurance company and you total it or wreck it they absolutely will not may FMV. Good luck getting any kind of decent payback from them. Generally, you can get liability b/c they aren't insuring the vehicle anyway.

Lastly, if I rebuilt the total it would be outstanding and I am sure some other rebuilders do good work. That said, most rebuilders are pretty sketchy, from my experience.

just don't buy a salvage title vehicle from New Orleans and you should be ok.

I have two with blue titles (salvage title in Texas) I bought them Wrecked and fixed them both had frame damage pulled em both straight replaced whatever body panels needed and painted both. They each are still on the road today both are fully insured and haven't had a problem out of either other than normal wear and tear. If you ever plan on selling it it'll have to be private sale because a dealership won't give you squat for it but there's nothing wrong with a rebuilt vehicle if it was done correctly.

How does that work no of the other VINs match/

Hell, the old days of doing VIN-arectomies were long gone, I thought?

on the form for the DMV you list the VIN from donor vehicle. They issue a new VIN. pretty simple

Once they started putting the VIN on the seat rails, it was a done deal.
