Taking your daughter on a date is not going to show her how she needs to be treated. Being a father is going to do that. If
Why do those two things have to be exclusive. If I take my daughter places, with the purpose of showing her how a man should act, isn't that parenting?

OMG, did I date my dad???????
When you call a situation like that a "date", you create too much ambiguity in the English language. Women do this when they call their female friend their "girlfriend". The word "girlfriend" should only be used to describe one type of relationship, just like the word "date" should only be used to describe a situation in which the people involved are courting. Stop trying to change the definitions of words.

It's pretty obvious no one is pursing a romantic relationship with their daughter.
We leave that for the tidefans.com posters.

the ones freaking out about calling it a "date" are the ones making it weird and overemotional IMO

exactly, they wouldn't dare call hanging out with their son a "date", but somehow its exceptable for taking their daughter out?

It's terrible when a father treats his daughter with respect.

You aren't changing the definition. The phrase "It's a date" when not meaning an actual romantic date has been fairly common for a long time. It's a pretty common joke in rom coms.
Definitions and meanings change all the time, our language is always progressing. Deal with it.

So if you took your son out to go Dinner, you would cal it a date?

I'd be willing to bet anyone that is upset about the use of the word date has no kids, certainly not any girls.

A "date" usually connotes someone of the opposite sex.
It's really an outing.
Y'all are some strange folks.

it is just something that gets little girls excited
calling it a date makes it feel more special
it's really pretty simple

I don't have a son, but if I did I am not homophobic enough to have an issue with it apparently.

Well, I wouldn't teach my daughter to pee standing up either. There are double standards when it comes to how I treat my kids. Just like there are with how I treat men versus women.
