Man...this is absolutely not true. Those 2 classes of drugs aren't close to the same thing.

That's crazy. I take it the ER doc never had a bone fracture, kidney stone or painful cancer. Karma has a way though, his will be coming soon to get him.

I have had my tonsils taken out last year and two wisdom teeth taken out this year, one of which was underneath the skin. I was prescribed syrup and 7.5 mg tabs for both surgeries. Still have all of it.

Opitates have nothing on the toradol injection for dealing with kidney stone pain.

What about the morphine I got?

Tramadol has serious dangers associated with it. It blocks pain without a high so people take too much of it. High doses of tramadol are shown to cause acute seizures.

Yep.

"OMG our kids are having seizures!!!" Will be the cry in a few years.

Or Cox-2 inhibitors. Remember Vioxx? Everything else they try to use and SELL has other issues. And those issues can be terrible. with normal usage.

First two were the docs quote. The last was from the CDC!

I mean, morphine would certainly do the job too. I'm guessing you produced some ridiculous sized stones. My side hurts just thinking about it.

How people take this stuff for shits and giggles blows my mind.

They gave me Oxycodone for my back and it makes me feel like shite and keeps me awake all night.

Just pointing out that I think they over prescribed me pain meds. The for the tonsils I definitely needed it, but didn't take them.

It all depends on the individual. I love the way pain pills make me feel and I can't stand the buzz from alcohol.

The problem isn't the terminally ill patient. The problem is the family member who is chosen to care for them at home (often the unemployed family member), who then steals their oxys and sells them for $30.00/per

Or Hoovers them down like the vacuum at Benny's Car Wash.

The issue for me isn't that they prescribe them in the first place. It's how many pills they give you.

I had a arthroscopic shoulder surgery got prescribed 100 percocets. Totally unnecessary. I was in pain for like 3 days.

Some dude with a broken wrist needs like 10 pills to get through the initial shock. Advil will be fine after that.

That is a problem but I dont think that is an excuse for not giving patients especially terminally ill patients opiates.

This opiate thing is getting so dumb. Once the media gets ahold of a drug scare, mass stupidity always follows. Peole with underlying emotional problems abuse drugs. This is the way it has always been. It doesn't have anything to do with doctors over prescribing. There are always people desperate to blame anyone but the degenerate addicts themselves whenever theres a drug scare like this. Grow up blame the idiot eating pills like tic tacs, not the doctors

I used to think exactly like this. Until I the surgery on my right shoulder that went bad. 4 years later and every single day I am acutely aware that my shoulder has been worked on. It grinds on movement most days, and every 4 to 5 months I will roll over wrong in my sleep and cause a sublexation.

I've been on pain pills for the whole of the last 4 years. It took me far longer than most to get physically addicted, 2.5 years, but it happened. I can't even put into words the agony I'm in when in withdrawels. Every individual finger joint, my wrists, elbows, ankles, and toe joints feel almost like electricity is going through them. It's so excrutiating that to be able to sleep I have to stay awake for 3 days, take an Ambien, 1600 mlg of gabbapentin, and get drunk out of my head. Some nights it was so bad that I've taken 2 Ambien and still not been able to sleep.

I've attended 7 colleges, son of a pastor, been a youth pastor, been married for 9 years, 1 kid, 2 car payments, been a foreman for an installations company, and a restaurant GM 3 times. I do not have any sort of "underlying emotional problems". I grew up in a stable home and have had a great life.

Opiate addiction is typically seen at the same rate in most societies because the same % of people get a euphoria from it. Most people don't understand because it's a major downer and makes them nauseous. But for people like me, it's an upper and does not cause nausea.

Heroin dealers are fricking rejoicing at this news.

This is crazy - it is totally irresponsible to roll this shite out without providing legit alternatives to people in real need of relief of debilitating pain. People suffering with that sort of pain will be (and have been) proven to go in search of relief one way or another when faced with no alternative vs continued suffering. And I'm not talking about junkies, I'm talking about the small segment of the population who are true chronic pain sufferers who rely on opoids to deal with severe breakthrough pain flare ups.

Some people are just addicts, I don't care if it's cotton candy or crack. They'll do it until it kills them.
