re: On a scale of 1 to 10 how dangerous is the revisionist history attempt of Mitch Landrieu?

Yea, Mitch has been doing an outstanding job as mayor, and certainly any criticism of him is baseless.
Thank you. How anyone can approve of Flinch's performance is beyond me.

I'm going to say 1 out of respect for the question. I would go lower if the question allowed. The statues themselves, and their removal, are near meaningless. It is simply an object/cause for snowflakes of different ideologies to congregate around.

Takem Down New Orleans wants to. I am sure Mitch will acquiesce sooner or later.
It's just a statue, right? What's the big deal if they do?

Sadly, it is a sign of the times. I doubt anything (violent) will come of it.
It truly annoys me how quick and efficiently they've removed the statues. New Orleans is notorious for 1.) fricking shite up and 2.) taking an inordinate amount of time to complete a project properly.
They got this done in no time.

I love how this is a uniquely American problem. The rest of the world has plenty of statues of people throughout history that are controversial that stay up because people like to remember what happened there.
There's tons of examples of this in Europe. Meanwhile in PC USA they tear down anything that might make someone remember what happened.

Let's gut everything in New Orleans that defines the unique history of the place. Let's make it look like Cleveland-- that's the ticket.

The bayou country superfest will be in NOLA this year. That crowd may decide to boycott the city. The economic impact could be huge. Something Mitch didn't think about before taking the statues down

Have you seen his asinine model for what he wants to do to the French Quarter?
Because that's coming next.

10. And the real horror show will be in what "they" decide to replace these historical artworks with.

Go to Germany and count how many statues and memorials there are for the Third Reich.

Oh they're there, you just gotta know where to find them.

I don't think the intent is to erase/revise history. Those are criticisms of emotion.
The concerning aspect of this is how easily our elected officials will acquiesce to the criticism of a tiny minority who don't represent the constituents. The game plan is aways the same: yell racism/discrimination, start an online campaign, yell it louder, wait for elected officials to crumble.
This just goes to show you how important local elections are. If you're serious about this country, we cannot let any more Democrats occupy those city council seats. We have to be just as loud as the opposition. We have to be just as ruthless. Find weaknesses and exploit them. Identify corruption and spotlight it.

see people avoiding that city like the plague. You don't revise history, to control the message, or limit thought, without repercussions.
The average New Orleans tourist doesn't give a shite about statues and likely won't even know what you are talking about if you asked them

I suppose Mitch Bitch's use of the word "reconciliation" and the phrase "the lost cause of the confederacy" is all just coincidence.

is it revisionist history or is it an attempt at a national name and donkey support for further political ambitions.

I have counted more than one statue of the Kaiser in Cologne (who killed an entire generation) and literally hundreds of statues of Stalin all over Eastern Europe (who arguably is worse than Hitler).
What about Napoleon? He's all over Paris.
What about Oliver Cromwell? He's all over Northern Ireland and England after the massacre and rape of thousands of Irish.
There's tons of other examples too that don't fit your narrative.
No, this is a BS PC USA problem.
You can point to Hitler all you want to, but the South has nothing to do with the Third Reich.

I have no love for the Confederacy or its symbols, but this is not right.
Here's why: these statues are the first dominos to fall. There's always more. The people who want to rewrite history will stop at nothing. First it's the monuments. Street names and school names will follow. Then school curricula (they are already at work here), then watch what will happen next. I guarantee you that books about the Civil War and the slavery period will begin to be "restricted access" in libraries, and eventually they will disappear from the shelves. Then primary source access will be "restricted."
These folks truly believe they operate from the moral high ground. And as such, they will leverage it over and over again. Push back on it, and they will double down. Guaranteed. Cat is out of the bag. Good luck getting it back in.

The rest of the world also has tons of statues and works of art that have been destroyed and removed by people who didn't like them. Nothing new under the sun.
Perhaps the fact that the south lost the war, lost the historical PR campaign, and still got to put up statues honoring their losing leaders is the more unique thing in history.
