A quick correction here.
LA is Louisiana.
L.A. is Los Angeles.
Keep it straight!!

Move here- with the same line of work that you do now- and tell me with all honesty that NYC has better quality of life than SELA, or New Orleans for that matter.
Theres no way. Have you even been here before?

Of the two, NYC. Been to both a few times and I like NYC much better. The older I get, the more I hate traffic

Never been to LA. Don't live in NYC unless you make 100k+ when you're in your 20s. Otherwise its not worth the drop in quality of life from SELA. Laundry? Hope you like the laundromat. Dishwasher? Fuggaboutit. Central AC? Most of my friends in LA pay less in their mortgage than what my rent costs. If you do buy property prepare to pay both NYC Personal Income tax & NYC property tax. I have friends that paid 20k in property taxes in 2014.
Don't move to NYC

I've lived in both, and I would pick Los Angeles without even a second of hesitation.
I don't think the traffic is that unbelievably bad, especially if you avoid the major highways. If you can drive through something like Olympic Blvd instead, it's actually quite manageable. The only time traffic was killing me was when I went to the beach (Venice was worse from a traffic standpoint than Santa Monica, fwiw).

LOS ANGELES.
I lived in NYC, UES and was paying $1800 to share a 2 BD/2BA 1200sqft apartment, freezing my arse off for 7 months out of the year and not having a car sucked arse.
If i am going to pay $1800 for an apartment, i rather be an apartment with this amazing view, great weather, beautiful women, and a car drive away from doing whatever activity i desire (hiking, surfing, snowboarding in the winter).
Ended up moving from NYC to SoCal this past year and haven't looked back since. The beach is 2 streets down or a 4 min walk. You can see it in the 1st picture right below the palm trees.

City limits only? New York to live in Brooklyn or Manhattan
Suburbs included? LA so I could live in Santa Monica

It not only depends on your place in life but you're interests and personality. Only you can really answer the question.
If personally go with LA because the geography is amazing in California. Lots of great outdoors to explore.

Neither?
I've spent a good bit of time in both and NYC is much more interesting for a visit but I'd kill myself before I'd live in either one.

Can't really speak to NYC but LA sucked major donkey dick.
The women though
I couldn't believe the "concrete jungle" aspect of it.
Never met any arse wipes out there but I'm sure there are plenty.

Maybe some people define 'quality of life' as being a part of a neighborhood, with top-notch entertainment, food, nightlife, parks, and overall 'things-to-do.' Not having 4 acres and 3000 sq ft in Livingston Parish for muddin', catchin' crawdads, and being bored out of your mind on weekends.
