We paid about 850 for our sq. Got it at magic video in new Iberia. They were cheaper than Coburn's. Please no judging for going to New Iberia. Magic video did some good work on FILs boat so husband made me go there for washer. It was cheapest there too.

How much is everybody paying for a top loading SQ washer with manual controls. Seeing varying prices online.
I paid $1650 for the set at Bellelo's. Got them to price match the place in Amite. $800 the washer and $600 for the dryer, plus tax.

Went shopping today for a new Speed Queen set. Pretty ugly to look at but nobody will see them in my laundry room. Going for top performance!!

why do samsung laundry machines fail at a higher rate than even GE?
I love Samsung as a brand, their fridges are legit, good dishwashers great TVs and phones. I wouldn't recommend any of their laundry units. The dryer isn't bad, but the interior is a carbon copy of older Whirlpools, and infact many FSP parts cross over.
(elements, belts, pulleys, etc)
I think Speed Queen is the best brand out there because they keep it simple.
Cabrios mentioned earlier will have a bearing failure. Not if, when.
A 14 year oldGE is a good washer, but i hate when I read "my 20 year old washer was great, I like that brand"
--Cool, but you have to understand that Energy Star regulations killed appliance longevity.
Pretty much all appliances made after 2003 are shite.
Yeah a 14 year old GE is good, then they switched to the Hydrowave. Control board and motor in one unit. It fails... Well It cost me $250 for the motor so imagine what it costs you installed. Meanwhile I can get many Whirlpool and other motors for less than $100.
GEs are quiet, that is their selling point, but they are known in my industry for weak control boards. If I get a call for a failed GE fridge 9/10 it's the control board. $205 retail.
Doing the same job of a $20 timer.
It's sad.
I know Samsung inside and out. I like that the parts are cheap. I like that they are easy to work on, and I like that so many people buy them. Why? Napoleon the OT poster wants you to have good appliances and free advice on TD.
Zach the appliance guy, wants you to have shite that breaks that keeps me in business. If everyone had Speed Queens, and older refrigerators, would not be able to survive in this business.
But because people like pretty appliances with bells and whistles, I can make great money doing one of the world's easiest jobs.
Stay away from anything GE, I'll hold out judgment on the 2017 Samsung laundry centers. I skipped the last training seminar on them, but I know this..
The recall did not address the breaking pump issue, the recall did not address the weak spring issue.
It is dishonest to tell consumers all is fine, then secretly send us bulletins and updates on how to fix sub-par parts that should have never left the factory in the first place.
I can't even tell people to go to the box stores and get the cheap machines anymore as the bottom line Whirlpools and Kenmores are crap too, and the bottom GEs use the damn Hydrowave.
Those companies need to release a classic line and sell 1990's Direct drive and 1980's v-belt models.
We still see a lot of 1990's machines. I know this. next decade I doubt I see any ten year old machines.

2 yr old Whirlpool. The model with the row of lights
The vertical modular washer or as I call it "take the service fee and run". The parts on those machines regularly make repairs cross comfortable thresholds of repair.
They are so common because people associate those brands with good machines. If you see a machine with a grey start button next to a line of lights...run away.

This. We have one of the "high efficiency" top loaders without an agitator. It doesn't wash clothes as well as our old agitating one
Same here. It just pisses on the clothes from the top, instead of filling up the tub all the way. So aggravating. Probably uses more water (and definitely electricity) still. The HE machines are just trash.

It does use less of both actually. Most of the units use DC motors with inverters so they draw less wattage.
The newer rotor/stator motors use far less kilowatt hours that the older wound copper brushless motors, but still the savings in utilities cost is negated by the higher repair costs.

I understand everyone's frustration especially with the recall. I can tell you that the entire Top Load lineup has been replaced and is slowly hitting the stores. I do wish we had an entry level model with an agitator because they're still very popular. Samsung is coming out with a basic Top Mount Refrigerator and heated dry Dishwasher. Those are being floored at Best Buy this week. I'm hoping the Washing Machine is next.

I bought a new washer and dryer last year and had no clue about the whole HE thing with no agitators. The first time I used it I freaked out and thought something was broken. Come to find out they basically don't make the old school washers anymore (would later find out speed queen is what I was looking for) and I'm stuck with a washing machine that doesn't wash.

You're the expert, so I'll take your word.
It just seems after setting it to "extra rise", "high fill", and all the other stuff required to actually get the soap out and clean better it cycles for hours.

I bought a Speed Queen washer for my wife's work (Vet clinic) last July. They have been washing ~5 loads per day of towels with no problems. Obviously a short time frame, so I will update over time.

Napoleon, still haven't replaced by 20 year old Maytag yet with the new Speed Queen. My Maytag is dripping water into the tub continuously when unit is not running. Is this worth fixing or go new SQ? Thanks!!
