I wish they would address the crime in the fq instead of spouting out this bullshite that's gonna be unenforceable.

Has a bar ever been successfully sued for secondhand smoke exposure slow?

9 million people visit New Orleans every year. If you take nationwide averages, 20% of those visitors are smokers. SOOOO that leaves you with potentially 1.8 million people that could get fined or get turned off to the city by this ban.

Nola is proving that its government is much more concerned with expanding its power over its population
ummm this was proven decades ago brah
and there has been absolutely no evidence that it's close to changing
although it's SLOWLY changing...NOLA is losing too many of their "born and raised" folks...it seems to me a lot of the nola born and raised are the ones who ignore crime and pretend things are perfect.

I'm sure quite a few people looking for a party destination choose between Vegas (no smoking ban in bars/casinos) and NOLA. It was already mentioned that a fairly large cigar convention is coming to NOLA this year, and they are likely to stop coming here after the ban.

The Louisiana State Police did a study and has said the state/city will lose money. Are they wrong?
In the long term, yes. These bans don't impact business like everyone cries about before they go in place. I've lived in 2 different places where this happened a decade ago. Same story with bar owners bitching. Until they realized all their patrons continued coming anyway.
That is not the point though.

APHA is one that I know of. ~13,000 attendees. Cantrell mentioned 27 in total.

Interesting. I wonder why the LSP's study didn't have this included?

You realize people come to New Orleans to drink and party and that a lot of those people smoke. New Orleans is not like other major cities.
Los Angeles visitors /= New Orleans visitors

So they're going to continue coming here even if the ban doesn't include Bourbon St? Why don't they care about the health of those poor people?

If 80% of the population are non-smokers, then wouldn't it stand to reason this would make New Orlea s more attractive? Louisiana (and the South) has a higher % of smokers tha m other parts of the country. Most people in the US these days do prefer to avoid places with smoke, even when they are going to "drink and party".
The economic impact of this is negligible to positive I'd bet, but again, thats not the point.

They could have done that before the ban.

This thread makes me want to drive to Nola. Post up at a bar and smoke an entire pack.

It's funny because so many people are screaming that we are behind the rest of America in doing this.
Why do we have to be like the rest of America. If the rest of America was eating dogshit for breakfast, we have to too?
