They've started to overturn some in the Netherlands. People are just now starting to realize that all of the studies that these bans were based on were false. It is also starting to be realized who is behind a lot of these bans and that is starting to shed new light on things.

Things add up. Look at all the huge companies that moved out after years of mounting regulations.

9 million people visit New Orleans every year. If you take nationwide averages, 20% of those visitors are smokers. SOOOO that leaves you with potentially 1.8 million people that could get fined or get turned off to the city by this ban.

Will this ban attract new visitors? As a non smoker, smoking has never deterred me from visiting the city but I would have second thoughts if I was to be fined.

In November 2010, the new Dutch government repealed the portion of the law deaing with small cafes and small bars that have no staff, exempting them from the smokefree law and requiring them only to post signs that smoking is permitted. However, in February 2013, the smokefree law was reinstated in small restaurants, bars and cafes in a narrow vote. In March 2013, The appeal court in The Hague ruled that all cafes must be smokefree, with no exception for small cafes run by the owner. In May 2013, the government announced plans to resinstate the smokefree law in bars and cafes by July 2014, except for enclosed areas with no service.

The Louisiana State Police did a study and has said the state/city will lose money. Are they wrong?

What has happened to previous lawsuits against similar bans? Why haven't the succeeded? Have they come close?

what does this have to do with anything?

we're talking political philosophy/theory here. the states, sadly, have this sort of regulatory authority. it's not a legal issue

Oh. I thought if it was infringing on property rights that it was a legal issue.

Not really for you to decide.

you're being obtuse. it has no bearing on this discussion. the legal authority is settled.

a long time ago courts ruled that they didn't respect property rights and they have not yet overturned these laws

this is about legal-political theory

people are joyous and happy to use government to get their way and engage in crony capitalism...as long as it is something that they believe in. many of these people are avoiding that issue and are trying to spin this as a "health issue" to avoid admitting they're being selfish (and almost assuredly hypocrites).

In short. All the people supporting this are just saying "ou look at me my vagina hurts". At least that's what I'm getting.
