Posted by Bayou SamBlue Moon Saloon is definitely where you want to be if you're a Blackpot guy. The same bands that play there also play at Artmosphere. These are the two main venues for good live music and dancing in Lafayette proper. Of course there are other, more traditional, Cajun and Zydeco places around, but these are the two primary places where the younger set plays. Learn how to properly Cajun dance if you want to meet girls. People "dance" in NOLA, but really they don't have any idea what they are doing. Oh, and the Wild Salmon, as someone said. Great dive.

No doubt. I've seen the difference. The only thing in Nola that's on par with a Lafayette party is a second line.

I always was mad at myself for not learning how to two step in Nola, because of every time I partied outside the city. Even the goofiest, nerdy guy will tear the dance floor. I even remember some of the main guys from Black Pot laying down plywood and couches at their camp for the pickin circle after the shows. That's dedication.

Another reason I've lived the area. It's one of the last uniquely cultured American cities. There are too many places that are just another generic town.

Go on Thursdays and get the Juicy Lucy.

Best burger in the city.

Heard a radio add today that Mellow Mushroom will be serving boiled crawfish on Friday nights. Might have to check that out.

Yeah I'm from Lafayette and love it. I'm there and in New Orleans maybe 15% of the year; in my line of work, you can't really choose where you'd like to live.

If you're into indie music, go see Brass Bed some time. They are good friends of mine. The Carbon Poppies are also good. For Cajun, my preference is Feufollet (good people too); Blayze 'n Saddles is a good honky tonk offshoot of them.

Make your way to Scott 3 miles west on I-10 and get some boudin. Billys, Best Stop and Don's all are right off the exit. There are really only two phases in life - before having a Billy's boudin ball stuffed with pepperjack, and after. After that, head to Maurice and stop at Hebert's Specialty Meats and get a Shrimp Dressing stuffed Deboned Chicken. Broc/Cheese rice and cornbread dressing is on point too since you have shellfish allergy.

The jalapeno stuffed potato chicken from Hebert's is my shite. Stop by the villager while you're in Maurice to get you a fried oyster poboy.

You'll also learn not to listen to a thing diat has to say.

Because diat, not to be confused with anyone who drives a fiat, is a huge twat and guides everyone the wrong direction.

Best boudin and cracklins in the area, IMO.

Best Stop in Scott has been my favorite Boudin since I was old enough to remember stuffing it down my throat.

At least there is a decent selection there. They're all damn good compared to what's available in BR.

A guy at my office lost a bet on this past LSU/ Alabama game. He had to go a month with 6 Alabama magnets on his truck.

I wouldn't go that far. I use to work in Scott and had people dropping boudin off left and right at the office. A number of us truly thought don's was awful. There's been moments when we threw away 2-3 pounds of dons. Billy's or Best Stop would be empty in a matter of minutes. Don's just didn't do it for us.
