That's what I thought but I didn't feel like looking it up. I recently learned that you can purchase loaves of French bread from them

Freetown or the saints streets area.
Best neighborhoods for young people. I lived in freetown for 3.5 years and loved it. We now live in the saint streets.
I never would have thought we'd end up in Lafayette long term but I'm very glad we did.

Is this where they do the barn dance, either before or after Black pot? I think I remember someone saying there was something going on in Abbeville. This sounds like it might be the spot.

No we don't have a dance floor its more like a concert hall. Drink some beer and wine, listen to good music.

I definitely didn't expect to move 1500 miles from Nola (plus all of my family and friends) just to move back 1300 miles within a few months.
But when they said Lafayette, it was hard to say know. I've said for years that I thought it was a really cool, small town. So basically, I left Nola, and have more moved across state to a town with a lower cost of living, and I got a raise and a per diem to do it. So I'm happy about it.

I think you made a good choice! It's a great place to live and I think it's only going to improve in the 5-10 years. It's nice being able to ride bikes in the downtown/campus area and have access to the festivals and parades.
This may have been answered but when are you moving? There are a lot of places open for rent right now.

Don't forget about LUS Fiber too. Less important than everything else obviously, but full symmetrical gigabit internet in your home is pretty bad arse.

No doubt. I hope their meats are homemade, and not cold cuts. I miss a good sloppy roast beef.

Thanks. And I didn't know about the parades. Is it only a carnivale thing? I missed my first ever carnivale this year in my entire life (a lot of family in Mobile), so it really sucked a couple weeks ago. And sure enough, since a snow storm rolled in town, I didn't even work fat Tuesday.
But I'm rolling in within a week or so. I actually broke my phone yesterday, which I use to tether internet to my computer. And I'm stuck using my crappy windows work phone. It sucks so bad, Craigslist doesn't work to look up rentals. But I'll have that kink worked out in a couple days.
But what I have seen seems cheap. I'll be looking for a furnished, month to month, pet friendly place; so that's a pain in the arse in any city. So I'll find a motel 6 for a few days, and either find an apartment or a roommate situation.
Having the university in town will make thing much easier to find something with my situation. Technically, I'm getting enough to stay in a hotel every night. So whatever I don't spend, I can use for other essentials, like booze and women.

It's your standard city type parade. The odd thing about Lafayette is that they use the same route for each parade. It ends at a fair in the stadium parking lot. It's pretty dark but we had loads of fun after the saturday night parades this year.
I doubt you'll find many houses in those neighborhoods that come furnished but most places are pet friendly from my experience. We found our current house by walking our dog in the neighborhood. Most people just put signs out in the front yard if it's available.

Cool place if you like hole in the walls. They have good music but sometimes they have really, really bad music there.
Also the Feed N Seed has good live music. I don't think that has been mentioned yet.
Plus theres always the World Famous Cowboys.

I do agree with that. My buddies band play there pretty often (Oddfellows), they are solid. I love the bar though, but I enjoy places like that. Super laid back.

The only thing I like about Texas is the BBQ, the city of Austin, and laughing at Aggies about their jizz jars.
Sounds like its a good thing I got out before it was too late.

Blue Moon Saloon is definitely where you want to be if you're a Blackpot guy. The same bands that play there also play at Artmosphere. These are the two main venues for good live music and dancing in Lafayette proper. Of course there are other, more traditional, Cajun and Zydeco places around, but these are the two primary places where the younger set plays.
Learn how to properly Cajun dance if you want to meet girls. People "dance" in NOLA, but really they don't have any idea what they are doing.
Oh, and the Wild Salmon, as someone said. Great dive.

For the most part, its not anything closely resembling Lafayette. My FWIW, anyway.
